Hello! We are rejoicing and excitedly welcoming springtime and April at the Nature Center! Exploring Gwynns Falls Leakin Park is a special treat during this time of year - there is so much to appreciate! The forest feels energized again with the sounds of birds and with fresh buds on trees.

Upcoming Events - April 2019
Mother Nature Story Time
Friday, April 5; 10-10:45 a.m.
Age: 0 to 5 years with caregiver; Cost is Free
Drop-in with your little one to hear stories about nature. You can count on singing, interactive stories, and meeting a live animal during your visit! Story hour take place outside weather permitting; bring a blanket! No need to register but large groups should call ahead.
Project Clean Stream
Saturday, April 6; 9-12 p.m.
Age: All; Cost is Free
Every spring, tens of thousands of volunteers come together to pick up trash from local streams, creeks, rivers, parks, and neighborhood as part of the Alliance’s Project Clean Stream – the largest cleanup event in the Chesapeake Bay region!
Spring Ephemerals Hike
Saturday, April 6; 1:30-3 p.m.

What’s blooming? Let’s go find out! Lovely spring ephemerals pepper the woodlands in the park. Feel free to bring your camera to photograph what we discover. A naturalist will help with identification of early spring bloomers.
Bird Banding
Sunday, April 14; 10:00-2 p.m.
Age: All; Cost is Free
Come join us at the Nature Center every second Sunday of the month with expert ornithologist, Eric Fishel, as he demonstrates missed-nets and bird banding in the Park. Eric is working in conjunction with the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center and we are pleased to announce that he has chosen our Nature Center as a bird banding site!
Sunday Spring Hike
Sunday, April 14; 10:30-12 p.m.

What’s blooming in the park? Join us for a naturalist-led tour to find out! We’ll search for signs of the season during a leisurely walk in Gwynns Falls Leakin Park. Please dress for the weather. Feel free to bring your camera, binoculars, and water bottle, too!
Family Volunteer Day
Saturday, April 20; 10-12 p.m.
Age: All; Cost is Free
Dedicate some family time to support environmental education programs at Carrie Murray Nature Center. No experience is necessary but be ready to get your hands dirty! Please bring a canteen; snacks provided. We'll meet at the Nature Center, and no registration is necessary!
Urban Garden Series: Composting 101
Saturday, April 20; 2-4 p.m.
Age: Adults; Cost is Free
Join us for part two of this three-part gardening series to learn the basics of composting. We will discuss various ways to compost and how to speed up the process.
Leakin Park BioBlitz 2019
Saturday, April 27; 11:00-4 p.m.
Age: All; Cost is Free
This year's event is going to be AWESOME! BioBlitz events bring citizens and experts together to spot, identify and record as many living organisms as they can find. Join naturalists, families and volunteers as we learn by looking for plants and animals in Leakin Park! Results from this event will count toward Baltimore’s totals for the international City Nature Challenge!

CMNC Feeding Time with Live Animals
