April Newsletter
Dear CMNC Community,
Welcome to the April edition of the Carrie Murray monthly newsletter! Spring has sprung in Gwynns Falls Leakin Park and we can’t wait to get out on the trails and explore with you all! What are you most excited to see this Spring?⁣

We’re on the lookout for Skunk Cabbage, Spring Beauties, and Mayapples, all of which are wonderful early spring blooms. And of course, we can’t wait to see the beautiful blooms in the Sacred Magnolia Grove! ⁣
In this month's issue, we are delighted to share fun and exciting announcements of new and returning programs. There's so much to do and see this time of year in the park, and we're offering more opportunities to get outside with your family and friends!

While the Nature Center building remains closed due to COVID-19 protocols we are continuing to offer outdoor and virtual programs for all ages during the week and on weekends!

As always thank you so much for reading and for your support. We can't wait to see you on your next visit to the park!

Best wishes,

Mary Hardcastle
CMNC Director

News & Highlights
Artists come to CMNC
We were so impressed by the creativity of the visitors who joined us at our Paint an Animal Ambassador program. It was a truly delightful afternoon. Our new friends met our resident Wood Turtle, and then let their creativity flow as they made beautiful works of art! See some of their paintings below.
Outdoor Discovery Ventures into Spring
Under sunny skies and through misting rain, Outdoor Discovery has ventured into Spring!
This month while exploring we worked on developing our observation skills as we examined the tiniest critters, tallest trees, and beginning signs of Spring. We also had lots of fun adventuring in the rain when we discovered how the forest and stream transform when it rains!
Wild Haven Happenings
The Wild Haven forest pre-school and childcare welcomed Spring with a Holi celebration, listening to songbirds, and splashing in streams on rainy days! We’re discovering May Apples and Spring Beauty flowers along the trails and the blooming trees at the Sacred Magnolia Grove make a wonder-filled canopy to walk under. We are preparing to have a family event called Spring Sing, where we all get together (perhaps virtually) to share our favorite songs!
New Signs at the Aviary!
Have you seen our new beautiful signs in front of our Aviary? One of our CCC members, Darrea Frazier, hand-painted these amazing signs! Not only are they beautiful works of art, but they also have so much awesome information on them so you can learn more about our Animal Ambassadors. Be sure to check them out the next time you are here visiting in the park!
Come Visit Us And View Beautiful Birds!
Come visit our bird feeders! We have a lovely ABA-accessible bird feeder and sitting area out in the front of the nature center. This spot is perfect for sunny days and can easily be accessed by all. This time of year you can spot chickadees, cardinals, and more! Come and visit us and enjoy some delightful bird watching.
We'll see you on the trails!
