Outdoor Discovery Wraps Up
|
|
Last month we held our last few weeks of Outdoor Discovery for the season. We investigated how the natural world changes with the seasons and what wildlife does in winter. We ended our last day by watching a beautiful sunset over Gwynns Falls Leakin Park next to a cozy campfire with yummy fireside treats! We are so grateful we had the opportunity to hold this program and offer a time of outdoor exploration to the youth in our community. Stay tuned for updates about this program in the Spring!

What are the CCC'ers up to?

Over Thanksgiving week, our Chesapeake Conservation Corps Member, Darrea Frazier, captured the title of 2020-2021 National All-American Miss Teen! Through the Maryland Master Naturalist program and other education and conservation efforts, she was able to highlight her community service with the Nature Center and the Chesapeake Bay Trust on a national stage. A massive congratulations to Darrea on this incredible accomplishment. We are honored to have you represent not only our Nature Center but also the great city of Baltimore.

Wild Haven is welcoming 2021 with wide open arms! The snow was a wonderful surprise; we loved sledding in it, painting on it, and tasting it! We're spotting tracks on the trails, scat in the grass, and winter buds on the branches as we hike on into the new year.

After 6 months of classes, trainings, and field trips our master naturalists have now gone from trainees to interns, and once they finish all their volunteer hours and they’ll be official Master Naturalists! Last month they all celebrated their amazing accomplishments with a campfire and certificate presentation. We are so excited to see all the great things this group will contribute to making our park the best that it can be. A HUGE thank you to Ela-Sita Carpenter for all the hard work she put into coordinating this program and all the support she’s given to this great group. Happy trails, Master Naturalists! We can’t wait to see what you all do in the future!
