News & Highlights
Therapeutic Recreation in the Park!
Last month, our Therapeutic Recreation Department joined us in the park for a morning filled with fun! We went for a nature walk, collected natural wonders, and made nature crafts. We even celebrated our wonderful time outside together by throwing nature confetti! It was a delight to spend the morning with awesome members of our community.
Wild Haven Happenings
With almost two months under their belt, Wild Haven is in full swing of their school year! From forest fungus to leaf piles, there is no lack of treasures to discover on the trails. Highlights include seeing box turtles, learning what bugs do during the winter, and gorgeous hikes to Winans Meadow. They are preparing for the colder months by talking about how animals survive the chilly temperatures. In December, they will hold a virtual Bare Branches ceremony as a way to celebrate the new season and to bring light into our lives during the shortest days of the year.
Master Naturalist News
Our Master Naturalist Trainees have learned so much over the course of the past few months! With just a few weeks left in the course, they have learned about all different aspects of our local ecosystem in the Piedmont Region of Maryland. Next, they will take their final exam and present their proposals for their group projects. Stay tuned to see the awesome projects they are working on!
Seasonal Activities & More!
Goodbye Autumn, Welcome Winter!
As we say our final goodbye to Autumn and welcome in a fresh new season we invite you to reflect on these beautiful words written by Barbara Vance.

When the geese are flying south
And the sky is grey, my dears,
Close your eyes, and lift your nose;
Listen with your careful ears.

Feel the winter coming on,
Hear it in the crackling trees;
Note the crisping, quivering wind
Sharply snapping at their leaves.

Feel it on the windowpanes –
Chilly glass on fingertips –
Mark the biting of the air,
Heated breath on numbing lips.

See it in the early eves,
In the glowing sunset where
Shadows of the naked trees
Rattle in the biting air.

Watch the nuthatch and the wren;
They know it is time once more
To abandon careful nests,
As they’ve done each year before.

Let it rest upon your face,
Let it reach and pull you in.
See how pretty nature is
When she ushers winter in.

- Barbara Vance
