June at Roper PT

Below are Roper PT's top monthly tips & picks for some quick inspiration and a look into each limb of our Pentagon of Wellness.

Using the Pentagon of Wellness as the foundation of our treatments is part of our integrative approach to physical therapy, treating the whole person and improving overall wellness.
Physical Limb: Pains of the Pandemic: Mask Mouth and Tech Neck

If you are experiencing jaw pain, headaches, neck and shoulder pain or increased stress then this class is for you! A lot of us are holding more tension in our jaws due to mask wearing and limiting facial expressions. Some of you have been working at home, maybe in a less than ideal desk set-up. We would love to help you learn to manage your pain and keep it from coming back!

Please join us June 7th from 12-1pm for a fun and interactive course with both live and zoom options. Learn helpful techniques to treat these pains yourself and how to prevent them from coming back. We will cover basic anatomy and how posture, jaw positioning and tension contribute to pain and dysfunction.

Spiritual Limb: Support Brave Step Through a Night of Art

Please join Nature's Spa in Charlotte for an evening of art, community, and celebration, this Friday, June 4th from 7-10 pm! Over 50 original paintings by local artist Lynne Dulken will be available. Enjoy light bites, refreshing libations from our favorite mobile bar, the Chug-a-Lug Wagon, and live music by local musician, Johnny Wicker. A portion of all proceeds will serve Brave Step, a local nonprofit that supports individuals impacted by sexual abuse.

Located at Nature's Spa, 6311 Carmel Road, Charlotte, NC 28226, this event will feature Free Giveaways!, Artwork, Spa Treatments, and Organic Skin Care Products!

Intellectual Limb: Restful Sleep and Wellness

Roper Physical Therapy wants our patients to examine their sleep habits! As we say in our mission, we recognize the 5 pentagons of wellness: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects that must be addressed for long-term healing and on-going wellness” and this includes sleep health.

Sleep is important for overall health and wellness with a lack of sleep being linked to conditions such as diabetes, obesity, and depression. Additionally, studies show connections between sleep deprivation and mistakes at work and motor vehicle crashes. Adults need 7 or more hours of sleep a night for optimal, while teenagers and children need more sleep than adults. Furthermore, according to a 2002 National Sleep Foundation poll, women are more likely to suffer from insomnia and sleep deprivation.

Energetic Limb: For Those of You That Like to Cook

It’s fresh basil season!  Which means it’s officially time to make a million batches of fresh pesto, and toss it, scoop it, drizzle it, stir it into Everything!

If you are looking for a vegan pesto recipe that you'll want to eat with a spoon because it's so good, you'll have to check out this recipe that uses pistachios rather than traditional pine nuts.

If you follow us on Instagram (@roperpt), you got to see Sean Gorman make pizza with this pesto. Just roll out your dough, spread it on, cook, cover with arugula and cherry tomatoes. Voila!
