Hello <<First Name>>, how are you doing?

In the previous newsletters we were showing you ways on how to improve and promote the ecological and economic environment in your community. This time, we are focussing on the social environment, because table tennis can also be used as a powerful platform for social inclusion and empowerment of the youth and the elderly.

You would like to make an impact on the social environment in
your community?
Spread solidarity through the World Table Tennis Day!

For the World Table Tennis Day 2020 you can think about targeting the youth and shaping their personal development, because they are going to shape our future. While training table tennis, children and adolescents are motivated to learn – especially when it’s fun! On the other side, it is important to not forget the older generations, because they have already worked for our future. With the aging process, elderly tend to retreat from public life and become less physically active, which can cause having physical abilities like children again.

Ideas for your WTTD 2020 event

Use these characteristics! Let your WTTD 2020 event become a vehicle for encouraging youth and elderly to adopt (socially) active lifestyles in order to promote well-being at all ages! In case you only have inadequate sport or recreation facilities in your community: Get creative e.g. by building your own table tennis table! If you already know a safe, accessible and inclusive as well as a green and public space: Show the youth and elderly, where they can meet during their leisure time for socializing and enjoying nature by placing your WTTD event in the right spot – because everyone has the right to leisure, to participate in play and recreational activities and to join cultural life.

Another way of advocating a supportive social environment could be shown throughout an awareness campaign regarding child labour, employment of elderly due to poverty and all other kinds of forced labour, next to your table tennis-related activities.

Sample Case

All these tips are nice and solid, but you still don’t know what kind of activities you can plan for your WTTD event? Thanks to the Latvian Table Tennis Federation along with the Children and Youth Centre “Laimite”, you can watch their video and get inspired by a very good example of different types of activities. In order to make table tennis more accessible for children and adolescents and to encourage them to use their leisure time in a qualitive manner, the WTTD 2019 event organisers from Ķekava, LATVIA, offered fun activities around table tennis plus drawings and prizes to approximately 50 participants – and has been awarded as one of the most universal WTTD 2019 event.

TIP: Combine these activities with generation games, e.g. team up children, parents and grandparents, to empower the youth and the elderly in order to make a change and grow together!

To start planning your event, answer these questions:

  • What are your vision and values you would like to highlight through your WTTD 2020 event? You can plan your activities around these values.
  • Who can help? It is better to have several team members to assign tasks to, then to do everything on your own. Consider team meetings on a regular basis to have a good overview.
  • Who can be your sponsor or other partners? Make a list of possible contacts.

Create a to do list and a timeline to make sure nothing is missing, and everything is manageable on time!!

You don’t know where to start?
Download our WTTD Toolkit – it will ease the way to your WTTD event organisation!

If you still urge to read more about how you can use table tennis for a specific target group, e.g. educating children, take a look at our Download page, where we’ve uploaded last year’s newsletters.

For more general information about the WTTD go to our new website, or read the old one in one of these 9 languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Japanese.

And when you’re already on our Download section: Get your WTTD logopack in the language and formats you need, so you can edit the logopack to your wishes and print T-shirts, stickers and banners to promote the event! During the last two weeks we could include more languages to the WTTD logopack for you: AMHARIC and HINDI!

Your language is not included? Please send us your translation of …

  • World Table Tennis Day
  • April 6
  • Popular
  • Universal
  • Inclusive
  • Table Tennis for Everyone, Everywhere!

… and we will be happy to include it!
