Hello <<First Name>>, how are you?

As mentioned in our last newsletter, the World Table Tennis Day 2020 is about making a change and growing together to be more popular, universal and inclusive. 2020 is for OUR ENVIRONMENT, OUR FUTURE!

How can YOU create a positive impact in your community and tackle climate change through table tennis? Get inspired here!

Besides having fun and developing new skills, table tennis is a universal tool to teach positive values and behaviours that can contribute to build or change the character of individuals. For example, table tennis can raise the awareness of treating our planet carefully like you can see on the picture above, where the organisers of a WTTD 2017 event at the beach of Santa Marta, COLOMBIA simply played table tennis next to a sign saying “Let’s take care of our planet”. Even this kind of a small public awareness campaign offers the opportunity to share information including sustainable development and eco-friendly lifestyles.

Why don’t you organise a table-tennis-based education programme, where you can teach your target group and passers-by about environmental sustainability and climate change? Therefore, you can stimulate your community to think about their lifestyle and behaviour, how to change it step by step, as well as exchange knowledge and experiences to ride towards a nature-friendly future – together!

TIP: Connect your event with collecting rubbish from the surrounding area, whether it’s a beach, a park, etc.

To start planning your event, answer these questions:

  • What values and lifestyle-techniques do you want the participants to have learnt through your WTTD 2020 event?
  • How will you use table tennis to work towards an eco-friendly behaviour and positive impact in people’s lives?

Additionally, use our Logopack, create your own message and print it on table tennis products, shirts, stickers, etc. in order to spread the word, catch attention and possibly engaging relevant stakeholders and different industries to join the combat against climate change.

You are not sure, whether this is the right idea for your event?
No worries! You’ll find your own path!

Another way of enhancing a positive impact on the local environment preservation is to plant plants during different types of table tennis games, as it is displayed on the picture below.

The organisers of a WTTD 2016 event in Nairobi, KENYA said: “We planted a total of 200 trees and showcased to the world that table tennis is a clean sport, that also takes care of the environment.”

To ensure a striking event, consider the following tips:

  • Invite local kindergartens, schools, high schools or universities to participate. It is important to involve the future generations as one of the main targets.
  • Promote your event through social networks and/or local media.
  • Contact local authorities to promote and/or support your event.

How can you encourage the future generations to play table tennis?

  • Start now organising an event for WTTD 2020.
  • Create an environment where everyone feels welcome, included and motivated. Put on some music and use attractive colours to decorate your event.
  • Plan activities in which everyone can participate. It is important to keep the participants active, so focus on the ones who are playing at the table as well as the ones who are waiting for their turn!

Your contribution to tackling climate change could start by registering your event and start planning!

Don’t forget to download the toolkit in one of the 9 different languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Japanese.

For more information about the WTTD go to our new website www.ittffoundation.org, or read the old one www.tt4all.com in one of these 9 languages. And don’t hesitate to download the WTTD Logo in different formats, which are available on the website, too, so you can edit the logopack to your needs and print T-shirts, stickers and banners to promote the event!

Just last week we could include another language to the WTTD logopack for you: LATVIAN!

Your language is not included? Please send us your translation of …
