Cards for Good Causes
The Cards for Good Causes charity card shop normally opens at the Tenterden Museum in Station Road from the end of October to the middle of December selling Christmas cards, wrapping paper, calendars, ribbon, napkins, tea towels, advent calendars, candles, and small gifts. At the moment though it is Lockdown! Here is a message from Chris who runs the Cards for Good Causes shop every year.
"We hope to re-open the shop at the Tenterden Museum to the public after the Lockdown ends on 2 December but in the meantime and for the remainder of the lockdown the Christmas Card shop at the Tenterden Museum will be running a click and collect service online. Customers can visit the Cards for Good Causes website and order to collect two days later from the Tenterden Museum. Collection slots are available between 10am and 1pm only from Monday to Saturday inclusive and availability will be limited to what we have in stock, which can be seen on the website."
"Please support us through these difficult times and use our Click & Collect service" >>> more

St Mildred's Church
First Phase of Major Improvements Scheme
One of the most beautiful churches in Kent, St Mildred's, Tenterden, is just about to start the first phase of a major improvements scheme, designed to make the 12th century church as resonant as possible for the 21st century.
Permission was granted by the church authorities on 11 November 2020 for the pews to be removed and replaced with 330 chairs. The pews will be removed in the next few weeks and chairs introduced which will allow services and events to be managed much more easily to comply with any ongoing Covid-19 related restrictions after 2 December 2020.
Whilst the use of the church is currently limited by the pandemic restrictions this news is a major boost for the church and the community. It means that when we are able to come together in larger groups, the inside of the church will allow for great flexibility for varying types of worship and the opening up of the entire nave for exhibitions, concerts, social and business functions.
Permission has also been given for the redecoration of the inside of the church which will commence after Christmas and be ready for Easter 2021.
These works are possible in part through the generosity of the Michael Uren Foundation and a grant from Ashford Borough Council. We are extremely grateful for the kind support of both bodies. Without it we would not be able to commence this phase of the project.
This is the first phase of the transformation project which the church has consulted with the local community on over the last few years. The next stage, which is in development, will provide for a new floor together with a new eco friendly and sustainable heating system. Further phases will include providing better facilities such as toilets and a kitchen to enhance the worship and community role of the church still further.
Says Lindsay Hammond, Vicar of St Mildred’s
“We want to bring our historic church right up to date. St Mildred's is here, first and foremost, for worship and prayer, but it needs to also serve our community in many other ways, and be a vibrant place which is open to everyone. We have a building at the heart of the community and we want the community at its heart”
The St Mildred’s Parochial Church Council, which is carrying out the changes, has pledged that the historic interior of St Mildred's will be retained and enhanced.

St Mildred's Church
The chosen chair, called Theo, was designed in 2009 by British furniture designer, Simon Pengelly. It was created specifically for use in church buildings and has won the Church of England’s ‘Design a Church Chair Competition’ and been recognised by the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers as ‘outstanding’. It has since gone on to earn recognition in the wider design community, picking up accolades from Design Guild Mark, Reddot Design Award and The Wood Awards.
The chair has been successfully used in such places as Bath Abbey, Norwich Cathedral and many parish churches
