Town Hall Scaffolding

The Town Hall roof repairs are coming along splendidly. The scaffolding will be coming down in mid October following repairs to the Kent peg parts of the roof and some of the slate areas. The present town hall was erected in 1790-1792 after the previous Court Hall was burnt down by a prisoner. On 19 March 1661 Richard Burden, a Freeman of the town, was confined to prison for debt. He set fire to the place and the Court Hall was burnt down and many valuable records including the charters were destroyed >>> read more Town Hall history
