Assessment of Impacts and Implications of COVID-19 in Sub-Saharan Africa: Equatorial Guinea, Liberia, South Sudan and Togo - Report Series (5 publications)

Last year we worked with UNDP Country Offices in Equatorial Guinea, Liberia, South Sudan, Togo to assess the macroeconomic, human development, governance and political impacts and implications of the crisis in these countries. The reports aim to provide evidence-based insights on the magnitude and nature of effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on households, communities and economies, and guide response and recovery programmes, as well as policies. "Big Data For Good. Can Big Data Illustrate the Challenges Facing Syrian Refugees in Lebanon?"
Authors/Partners: United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN ESCWA), Lebanon Central Administration of Statistics (CAS), Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI) and Data-Pop Alliance
Vast amounts of data (from traditional and non-tradicional sources) were examined in order to extract patterns and insights about the conditions and vulnerabilities of Syrian refugees and Lebanese host communities. This report provides data-based evidence of the situation, as well recommendations and solutions formulated accordingly. Check out the report by clicking below.

World Trends in Freedom of Expression and Media Development Report 2021: Data Collection and Analysis
Partner: UNESCO
DPA is working alongside UNESCO to provide data-driven evidence illustrating global and regional trends in media freedom, media pluralism, media independence and safety of journalists, all examined through a gender-sensitive lens. The findings will be featured in the upcoming World Trends Report 2021.

Evaluation of the EU Cooperation with the United Nations
Partners: Analysis for Economic Decisions (ADE) and EU Directorate - General for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG-NEAR)
This project evaluates the effectiveness, efficiency, coherence and impact of the EU-UN cooperation (specifically between the European Commission and UN specialized agencies) in the delivery of humanitarian aid and development support to countries and partners between 2014 and 2020. 

Country Gender Equality Profile (CGEP) for Liberia
Partner: UN Women Liberia
This project leverages data to create a gender equality profile of Liberia through a comprehensive analysis of the situation of women and girls in this country. The analysis is based on indicators of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), while also considering other key gender frameworks to provide guidelines of how to tackle gender inequalities and discrimination. 

Assessing the Socioeconomic Impact of COVID-19 on Agriculture, Food Security, Livelihoods, and Food System in Liberia
Partner: FAO Liberia
FAO Liberia is collaborating with local government partners and DPA to collect and analyze data in order to design improved monitoring systems and effective short and long-term policy responses to minimize the negative impact of COVID-19 on domestic food systems and maximize potential contributions to the country’s achievement of the SDGs.

Mental Health and Gender Inequality in the MENA Region: An Analysis of Shock-Related Factors Within the Context of the COVID-19 Pandemic 
Partners: Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and the Economic Research Forum (ERF)
COVID-19 is having differential socioeconomic impacts on men and women with potential consequences on diverging mental health effects. This following study aims to investigate the potential pathways through which COVID-19 socioeconomic, behavioral and policy changes are affecting gendered mental health inequalities in the MENA region.
