Dear friends,
When we began building The Yappie out of our college dorm rooms in 2018, we were driven by one goal: to create a newsletter that spotlights the often-invisible Asian American and Pacific Islander voices in politics, advocacy, and journalism.
Three years later, what started out as a small weekly email has grown into a nonpartisan publication dedicated to tracking AAPI power and activism. But we remain—as we have since our first day—100% volunteer-run and supported solely by generous readers like you.
As we near the end of this year, we want to share some of the ways your donations have made a difference. This year, we…
- Covered the White House and Congress in person and monitored the Biden administration’s response to surging anti-Asian violence.
- Produced 85+ stories and newsletters highlighting health disparities, efforts by both political parties to mobilize AAPI voters, and digital misinformation, among other issues.
- Published 38+ subscriber-only politics alerts and published a digital campaign celebrating AAPIs throughout history.
- Interviewed rising newsmakers including Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, organizers from Dear Asian Youth, LGBTQ+ activist Amazin LeThi, Hawai'i state lawmaker Adrian Tam, seasoned political consultants, and more.
- Joined a cohort of diverse newsrooms, including our partners at Self Evident and AZI Media, as part of the Solutions Journalism Network’s Advancing Democracy initiative.
As we transition into larger reporting projects ahead of the midterm elections, the need for smart AAPI coverage will continue to grow. That’s why we hope you’ll consider donating to The Yappie. No amount is too small and every dollar counts.
