<<First Name>>,

With this January newsletter I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone health and happiness through the New Year. I am looking forward to a wonderful year and am very optimistic about what is down the road. I also look forward to the challenges, because behind every challenge there’s opportunity. Happy New Year as we look forward to 2019 and all the year brings us.
Most regrettably, this year has begun on a tragic note for our community. On Friday, January 11, while returning home, three lives were lost and many people suffered injury when an OC Transpo Bus hit a bus station. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of Judy Booth. Anja Van Beek and Bruce Thomlinson, and to all who have been impacted by this shocking accident.
What we have again experienced in the aftermath of this tragedy, as we experienced in the weeks and months following the tornadoes that touched down in West Carleton, is the strength and resiliency of our community as we support those who need help and move forward with a renewed sense of what is important in our lives.

For residents of Kanata and West Carleton, my staff and I are working hard to communicate with you and provide news and information about provincial programs and services. With this month's newsletter, I present a dozen highlights from my activities through Kanata-Carleton in the past few weeks. Please do not hesitate to contact my community office (613-599-3000), if I can assist you in any way.

It has become my practice to host a New Year’s Levee to cheer in the new calendar year. I want to thank the more than 200 people who joined me January 5 at the Kanata Legion Branch 638 to celebrate our community and its promise.
I enjoyed meeting so many residents of Kanata-Carleton at the levee. I appreciated your expressions of support for what the government is doing and the speed at which it is being done.
It was good to catch up with Eli El-Chantiry, Ottawa City Councillor for West Carleton-March. Thank you for coming out to the levee Eli.
Thank you to Renaissance Repair and Supply CEO Len Anderson, COO Dennis Isotti, Director of Human Resources Kim Waite, and Vice President Sales Operations Doug Kerwin for your tour.
I was pleased to visit Kanata's Renaissance and hear first hand about its niche sustainability service for legacy electronics to telecom and defence sectors.
It was also a pleasure to meet with President Kevin Brooks and VP Ian Downie of the execitive team at Nordion (Canada). This company has a tremendous presence in Kanata North and a reputation that spans the globe.
It was wonderful to attend the Kanata Arts Club of Music-Lovers Concert prior to Christmas and to meet with the Chinese Community Association of Ottawa along with Allan Hubley, Ottawa City Counclllor for Kanata South.
I had a great time through the Christmas season, attending the parades and events in our community. This is the fun part of my responsibilities as MPP!
If you wish a meeting, either at my Community Office or at your work place, you can contact me with this online meeting request form (or simply call the office). Here I am meeting with Emmett and Holly from The Oasis in Kanata, a community outreach program of the Glen Cairn United Church, which offers support for caregivers of people with mental illness.
If you wish to request a certificate for an organization or person, click here. Here is the certificate presented the Diefenbaker Museum for their 20 years celebration.
I attend many events and visit with many people throughout our community. If you would like to be stop by, here is an on-line form to request a visit. Here I am speaking to a few gentlemen at Bridlewood Trails.
