A NOTE FROM PASTOR PAUL
I am excited to be sharing from God's Word this Sunday with another Parable. This one comes from Matthew 21 and is called The Parable of the Two Sons.

As I was rereading it this afternoon, I didn't get past the first line that Jesus speaks to the religious leaders: "What do you think?"

Pretty simple question. Pretty loaded question. Talk about being put in the spotlight.

It seems lately that, for a lot of people, when asked that direct question about something...usually weighty topics or issues, that we don't always answer sincerely. And by sincerely, I mean that we don't really give OUR answer...we give someone else's.

Many of us have fallen into a routine...well, a trap really, of responding with answers that really aren't our own. We are quick to run to a trusted friend, a wise spiritual leader, a boss, a spouse, a parent, or honestly whatever comes up as a result on a Google search, and we simply regurgitate whatever seems to ring the bell in our minds that is the closest thing to what we think we think.

Are we getting lazy?

Are we opting out of taking the time to deeply think and reflect about important topics ourselves?

To research BOTH sides of the issue, and come to our own educated conclusion?

Jesus asks a very exposing question in Matthew 21:28..."What do you think?"

Especially when it comes down to deep issues of faith and Scripture. Do we run to a website like gotquestions.org first, do we consider throwing our faith aside without any follow up because someone provided a compelling question that cast significant doubt on the existence of God or the authority of the Bible, and just give up because it sounds convincing?

If someone asks us a question about God or the Bible, do we pass them off to someone or something else? Or do we take the time, with the help of the Holy Spirit, and search the Scriptures for the answers they're looking for?

This question is a question that we should be very intentionally devoting our time and energy towards. Especially in times like these when opinions can be swayed so easily by convincing websites, charismatic speakers, peer pressure or group think.

God has given each of us a mind of our own with the incredible ability to study, understand and reason.

So what do you think? What do you think about the existence of God...The inerrancy of the Bible...The origin of the universe...The role of women in pastoral ministry...Abortion...Black Lives Matter...if a person can be gay and a Christian...or just name another topic.

Whatever you think, may it be guided and shaped by the Scriptures as you seek out the wisdom of God through the power of the Holy Spirit, because remember...we can't just trust our gut, or our heart..."the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick (Jeremiah 17:9). What do you think of that?

Pastor Paul
