World Catholic Education Day – May 30, 2019

May 30, 2019 is “World Catholic Education Day”. This day is an opportunity for Catholics the world over to celebrate and give thanks for the gift of Catholic education. This is a time to pause, reflect and pray for all who are involved with Catholic education.

Catholic Education Week

All schools in our Greater Saskatoon Catholic School Division (there are 50!) will be celebrating “Catholic Education Week” from May 27 through June 2 this year. This special week in our schools is centered around “World Catholic Education Day”. The theme for this year’s Catholic Education Week is “Living as Joyful Disciples”.
 
The more than 19,000 students within our Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools will take time this week to celebrate the distinct contribution their schools make in their lives and their communities. Our schools participate in daily planned activities in all grade levels and in all schools. Visit your school’s website or check out your school newsletter for more details. “Please join us in giving thanks for the unique contribution of Catholic education in our province and for the vital impact of Catholic schools on students, families and the wider community. In the face of new challenges – including the appeal of a court decision that would remove funding permitting non-Catholic parents to choose the great gift of Catholic schools for their children – we also ask you to join us in praying for the continuing existence and protection of publicly-funded Catholic education.”

Loving God,
We thank you for our Catholic school community where we can journey in faith together. Help us to accompany each other in our learning as we grow, living as joyful disciples of Jesus and bringing good news to the world. May your love speak to our hearts, helping us to bring hope to others and a commitment to justice in all we do. We make this prayer through Jesus, our Lord and teacher.
