We're busy as bees and thought it'd be fun to give you a little behind the scenes look into life at the SPUR office!

The days are ticking and we're checking our list to ensure all the finishing details are in place for our upcoming SPUR Summer Fling.  Our annual fundraiser is an opportunity to strengthen the foundation of all things that happen at SPUR — the unsexy, but important, behind the scenes business that enables our organization to exist.  Insurance, website, supplies for volunteer events, investing in the organization through talent and building programs to help execute our mission. The success of the Fling directly determines our level of impact and we are working hard to host a thoughtful, well-executed and purposeful evening.  We can't wait to celebrate and reflect with more than 300 friends in the coming weeks.

Amid this effort, we are excitedly working away on our quickly-approaching backpack drive.  This month, we've been in contact with over 20 programs and schools in Marblehead, Swampscott, Salem and Lynn, accepting requests from teachers, counselors, homeless education liaisons, social workers and food pantry directors.  The need is great this year, with more than 600 children depending on a sponsor. The backpack drive officially kicks-off on August 1.  Stay tuned for sponsor opportunities as well as volunteer sign-ups to help us fill backpacks with supplies and write personalized notes of encouragement and well wishes to each student.

Moving down the calendar, in the midst of our 3rd year in partnership with the Church of St. Andrew's, we are thrilled to share that we have been invited to not only extend our stay but to expand the garden! The Vestry of St. Andrew's approved additional plantings both toward Lafayette as well as off one side. This expansion will allow us to pickup approximately 1,300 Sq. Ft. and add a tremendous amount of growing room, accommodating new crops and likely doubling our yield for local food pantries.

On the topic of food, our food rescue in partnership with Shubie's is thriving and we continue to seek out additional partnerships with like-minded businesses. Research for curriculum updates for our youth enrichment programs is ongoing and we are finalizing sketches for our upcoming summer camp!

Stay tuned for lots of exciting events, projects, and volunteer opportunities to come. We look forward to seeing you around our community this summer, whether it be at the SPUR Summer Fling, in the garden, in the Lifebridge kitchen, or at the SPUR office. Stop in and visit us anytime!
We are excited and humbled to share that the annual SPUR Summer Fling is completely sold out!

With over 300 tickets secured, we look forward to a purposeful evening of celebrating and reflecting on our collective impact.

Thank you to the SPUR community for its ever increasing show of support and active commitment to our mission and also to the incredible 2019 SPUR Summer Fling Committee for their incredible effort in putting together a spectacular evening on July 13.
