This is an update to the August 22 notice of a COVID-19 community transmission situation on Monhegan.
As many of you may have heard already, Doug Boynton was the vaccinated resident experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID-19. Doug has authorized us to share his name in order to allow people to make informed decisions regarding their health based upon their recent interactions with him.
Doug has received a negative result from his recent PCR test. Medical providers and a Maine CDC epidemiologist have confirmed that he can return home and back to his normal routine, without need to isolate.
Because we are so remote and our island-based emergency responders have limited training and resources, it is extremely important that people do not take any COVID-19 symptoms lightly. It is better to find out sooner that it is not an emergency than to let an illness escalate. Due to weather and other factors, Lifeflight may not fly and a USCG boat takes longer to arrive, delaying vital advanced lifesaving care.
Please contact us if you have symptoms that might indicate a COVID-19 infection so appropriate testing and other resources can be offered to you.
