Dear Community Members,

It is notable that Maine continues to be nation-leading in its COVID-19 vaccination efforts. This is in large part why Maine made a recent shift to adopt US CDC COVID-19 guidance and adjust executive orders related to the pandemic. Effective Monday, May 24,
  • physical distancing requirements for public indoor & outdoor settings were lifted.
  • capacity limits for public indoor and outdoor settings were removed.
  • Maine no longer requires wearing masks in many settings.

However, wearing a mask & other prevention activities remain recommended by the U.S. CDC for people who are not fully vaccinated or not yet able to receive the vaccine. (For details see “Recommendations for Indoor and Outdoor Settings” section at: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/fully-vaccinated-guidance.html)

Please always keep a mask handy when on the island and traveling.

Masks continue to be required for all people in ferry ticket offices, on wharves (mainland and island), and on ferries per US CDC order for public transportation & hubs, enforced by U.S. Coast Guard.

You may also be required or asked to wear a mask in some other island settings, including at Monhegan businesses & workplaces, according to policy established by each individual business & workplace.

To minimize risk for Plantation staff & emergency responders, masks are required in the Town Office, South & North Fire Barns, Freight Shed and the new First Aid Station (opening in early summer). Masks and some other prevention practices, as outlined by Maine Dept. of Education, are still required at Monhegan School.

Your prevention efforts will help our businesses have a stellar season, keep unvaccinated kids healthy, and have ripple effects the world over. And by the way, if you or someone you know on Monhegan is seeking vaccination, convenient options in St. George for May & June are posted here and many other options are on the Maine’ vaccination website.

Spread your kindness!
