Governor Northam Announces Face Covering Requirement and Workplace Safety Regulations
Virginians are now required to wear face coverings in public indoor settings to help contain the spread of COVID-19. Governor Northam made the announced this would go into effect last Friday, May 29th.  “We are making progress to contain the spread of COVID-19 and now is not the time for Virginians to get complacent,” said Governor Northam. “Science shows that face coverings are an effective way to prevent transmission of the virus..." Virginia SBSD Disparity Study
The Virginia Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity (SBSD) is seeking insight from business owners and interested parties about their experience with contract work for the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Commonwealth has hired BBC Research & Consulting to conduct a disparity study to assess whether any barriers exist for minority- and women-owned businesses that make it more difficult for them to compete for Commonwealth contracts. There will be two information webinars for interested participants to learn more about the study on June 16 at 3:00-4:30 pm, and June 18 from 5:30-7:00 pm. Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce: Business Brief with Eastern Virginia Career College 
Susan Spears, President & CEO of the Fredericksburg Regional Commerce, recently sat down with Christine Carrol and Dorie Milford, President, and Vice President of Eastern Virginia Career College to talk about the programs they offer, including their associate program that can be completed in as little as 11 months depending on course requirements. Germanna Community College Offering Workforce Information Sessions 
The Germanna Community College Center for Workforce and Community Education will be hosting virtual information sessions about credentials, trades, apprenticeship, corporate training, and more every Friday at 8:30 am thru June 26. Bay Workforce Consortium Accepting Applications for Rapid Response Funding
The Bay Consortium Workforce Board has been awarded an $87,314 grant from the Commonwealth of Virginia to assist small businesses (fewer than 250 at a site) with certain costs related to the COVID 19 crisis. Examples of uses for the funding include: Paying for cleaning services so companies can stay open, Paying for cleaning supplies, Purchasing items that can assist employees in teleworking, Other COVID-19 related items can be considered on a case-by-case basis. Note that “equipment” with a per-unit value over $5,000 is not allowed; nor are wage reimbursements for employees. Germanna Community College Offering Free Online Class this summer: "Computers and Career Planning—Your Path to Success."
In an effort to help those laid off due to the COVID-19 pandemic, GCC is offering up an opportunity to learn new technical skills. The course will teach computer essentials and popular programs, and will also integrate that knowledge into creating a resume for job seekers. Email Dianna DiPasquale for information and registration at DDipasquale@germanna.edu.
