Signs that Save launched its first newsletter this July corresponding with their platform for drowning
prevention. Across the US, children and caregivers are enjoying pools this summer. In June, Signs that
Save co-founder, Kimberly Rios, gathered resources including interviews with pool safety experts and
had one-on-one discussions with survivors of drowning victims. Activists, Kimberly and Art Rios would
like to share their findings with you and offer caregivers a visual reminder with their “Secure the Pool”
sign.
“As a cautious new mom, I quickly learned from other parents to enroll both of my kids in survival swim
lessons. I learned that the prevention of drowning involves first and foremost proper supervision and
that assigning a ‘water watcher’ before starting an event or party is essential. However, even the most
responsible, loving and dedicated parents have had kids that drowned. This led me on a quest to find
out what layers of protection are essential for drowning prevention and how to best collaborate and
support our communities through Signs that Save.“
