Today,Governor Charlie Baker offered a powerful statement on the importance of social distancing and its connection to the Easter and Passover seasons:
It’s cruel that at a time when we need hugs the most, staying apart is the most important thing we can do for one another.
This week for our friends celebrating Easter and Passover, this week is about beating cruelty with love. We remember how to confront fear with faith, and regardless of whether you celebrate a holiday this week or not we’ve all been doing a lot of that for the past few weeks. Fighting a cruel force with love for one another, and faith that what we do today will make tomorrow better.
Now is not the time to give up or give in. Now is the time to help each other, to help the elderly, to help our front line workers, to help those battling sickness, and we do that by sticking with what we know works, and following through and staying together.
Following guidance from the CDC and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, the North Adams Board of Health advises that it is critical to emphasize that maintaining 6-feet social distancing remains important to slowing the spread of the COVID-19 virus. CDC is additionally advising the use of simple cloth face coverings to slow the spread of the virus and help people who may have the virus and do not know it from transmitting it to others. Cloth face coverings fashioned from household items or made at home from common materials at low cost can be used as an additional, voluntary public health measure. CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain, for example, grocery stores and pharmacies.
