27th September 2020

In this email you will find updates from Terrigal Uniting Church, including our minister's message for the week, news about our community and information about worship. If you have something to include in our weekly news, please email admin@terrigalunitingchurch.com.

Thank you to everyone who has completed this survey already! If you haven't had a chance yet, don't worry you still have time - the survey will remain open for the next couple of weeks.

After 6 months of having church online, we would like to touch base and see how you are feeling about worship and how engaged you are with our church community. We would really appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to complete this short survey to help us understand how we can continue help you worship God and connect with one another.

Richard is on holidays and before leaving he asked me to write something to encourage the youth of our congregation. So, let us begin with some words, an older man, viz. Paul, wrote to Timothy his young helper:

Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” (1 Timothy 4:12)

Paul acknowledges Timothy’s youth and at the same time places before him some guidelines on how to live a life that will endear him to all. And those guidelines are applicable to all Christians whatever their age.

In his letters to Timothy Paul also encouraged his young helper with additional sound advice which is helpful to all. He told him to hold on to faith, to have a good conscience, to train himself in godliness and know the Scriptures.

Faith is grounded in our belief that God sent Jesus his only Son to die for us on a cross that our sin may be forgiven and rise again that we may have assurance of eternal life.

Good conscience, the root from which this word comes means “to know together” that is, to be able to discern the good from the bad and then to choose the good.

Godliness, meaning to be respectful in all things relating to God.

Know the Scriptures. The best way to know the Scripture is to read them frequently in a disciplined way. The whole bible can be read in one year by reading just four or five pages each day.

As a congregation we give thanks to God for the young people he has led into our fellowship. Young people for whom we have a responsibility to nurture in the way of Christ. Let us continue to pray for our youth ministry. Pray for the leaders, the helpers, and the young people.

We bless Craig & Emma and the leaders as they continue to disciple our young people.

September Prayer Focus

Thank you for your prayers during this month for our front-line health care workers. Thank you for those who have responded to our question of ‘how can we, as a local church, be praying for you at this time?’.

It is important that we continue to ask this question and to keep praying.

We are blessed in this country and in our area to have wonderful people to care for us and our loved ones. We encourage you to thank them and tell them we are praying for them.
