Minister's message

This week is NAIDOC week. It is one of those times throughout the year where we are reminded of the gift that Australia has with our Indigenous People; the oldest continuous culture on the planet.

Over the last couple of years, I have had the privilege of listening to and talking with some of our Indigenous people. There is no doubt in my mind that Aboriginal Australians see and listen to the land in a different way to non-Indigenous Australians, and as I have met and listened to Indigenous Christians I have heard how their culture informs and shapes their relationship with Jesus Christ as well.

We should listen to our Indigenous brothers and sisters as they can help us to deepen our relationship with our land and our God.

November Prayer Focus: Emergency Workers

Our prayer focus for November is our dedicated people who respond to disasters of any kind. Many are volunteers, and they include, but are not limited to; Rural Fire Service, SES, Marine Rescue and Emergency Services. Please remember to thank these people when you see them and ask the question: How can we, as a local church community, be praying for you at this time.

Prayers from a Rural Fire Service member:
  • balance of home life and volunteer/work situation. At all hours of the night and day they are called leaving family that often worry about whether they will come home safely.
  • Please pray for their mental health as they often face difficult decisions as well as horrific situations. We pray for wisdom and God's guidance as choices need to be made.
  • for safety for all involved.
  • the community and families of the people involved.  Expectations can outweigh reality leaving everyone feeling devastated.
  • for strength and commitment and the ability to cope with the rush of adrenaline when called to an emergency.
Prayers from a SES member:
  • for the families that support and encourage volunteer emergency workers, freeing them to carry out their duties, knowing all is well at home.
  • for the work places that understand the need for volunteers to spend long hours assisting in the community and still turn up to work as scheduled and perform their usual tasks.
  • for emergency service volunteers having the privilege to be able to make a difference and give something back to their community
  • for opportunities to pray with the casualty or families at accidents, emergencies or crime scenes. The ability to offer spiritual support along with the practical brings great comfort to many in times of need.
  •  Prayers for all those assisting, to allow themselves time out when needed, and not to feel they have to attend every event and callout.  Knowing their limitations and keeping their physical and especially their mental welfare in mind during these trying times of COVID 19 especially
Thank you for praying.

Operation Christmas Child Update

Last Saturday two of the volunteers from OCC came in a rather large van to collect our boxes. They had driven around our state & had come from Gunadar that day.

We had packed our 182 boxes into cartons holding 24 boxes in each carton. Ours were added to the ones n the van, making it 99 cartons, so 2376 boxes. They could not have fitted one more box in. The van was certainly packed solid.

These 2 drivers were telling me that they picked the van up on 15th September & since then have put over 20,000 kilometers on the clock. What a  great effort these men have done. And they aren’t finished yet.

THANK YOU to all of you who have packed a box or given a donation towards the boxes. We have heard so many stories of how a simply shoe box has changed lives, & I am sure our boxes will do the same. Pray for the safe delivery & acceptance of these little boxes, so they can change lives.
