Minister's Message

This week, watching the news on TV has troubled me. Seeing how the tragic death of a man at the hands of a police officer in the USA has lit a fuse that has caused protests in America, Europe, Britain and here in Australia.

As a Christian my heart aches. It aches that our world has so much pain in it. Pain caused by injustice and discrimination. I need to examine myself, my actions and attitudes, to make sure I don’t ignorantly add to pain of others.

Through his actions, Jesus always cared for those who were marginalised - the ones pushed out of the society he was in -  touching a leper and letting a bleeding woman touch him. The early church took Jesus' words and actions seriously and formed a community with Jews, Greeks, slaves and free people in it, who were all equal and all bound together in Christ using their gifts of love for one another.

Reading the scriptures does not call us into division, but into unity. Listening to the pain of those who are struggling at the moment and reflecting on how we can bring healing and justice may be a good place for us to start.

As a church today I know we do take the words and actions of Jesus seriously. What are they calling you to do right now? I pray that our world does not fracture any more, but as we pray together may God heal the wounds and light a path forward for us all.

Blessings,
Richard

Messages of thanks

From Elizabeth Richards:
I would like to express my very sincere thanks to the wonderful community at TUC for the recognition of Barry’s death. Extraordinary circumstances I’m not sure how to deal with but the lovely cards, flowers and phone calls have given me support inexplicable. Thanks as well to Jan Fellows and Richard Harris for their pastoral care and ongoing support.

Eelen Wilson would like to thank her Terrigal Uniting Church Family for helping her celebrate her 90th Birthday last Wednesday. She had a marvellous day.

Congregational Bible Study

Starting this week, our church will participate in a whole-of-church Bible study, looking at the Book of Job. There are a couple of ways you can be a part of this:

Firstly, be sure to join our online services each week, as Richard will be exploring the book in his sermons. There will be an opportunity to discuss the themes raised in these sermons in the Zoom chats on Sunday.

Secondly, Lesley Earp and Sue Braund, two of our Elders, have written a Bible Study that can be completed within your small groups or individually. This is available as a booklet that you can print or complete electronically. You can also request a printed copy from the church for a $5 donation.

Here are the links to the study if you would like to complete it electronically or print it at home:

Extra Bible Study Groups

For those who do not have a small-group and would like to complete the Job study in a group, there are two special Zoom sessions being run throughout June. These will be:

Monday 9:30am-10:30am (led by Sue Braund and Noel Mansfield)
Wednesday 7:30pm-8:30pm (led by Richard Harris)

If you would like to join one of these groups please email admin@terrigalunitingchurch.com.

Audiobook

We are encouraging you to read through Job prior to completing the study. This is a large text, and if you would prefer to listen to it rather than read it, there a some free audiobooks available on Youtube.

This is a dramatised version that goes for 1 hour 45 minutes:
