Minister's message

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that I was planning to go to Tassie for a couple of days to catch up with my parents. Now that some of the Covid-19 restrictions are lifting I am able to fly down to meet them again.

Early this week Lachlan, Ewan and I flew down to spend some time with my parents and to do a couple of jobs around their house. It was wonderful to see a couple of my uncles, aunts, cousins, friends and of course mum and dad.

We have talked a lot through this pandemic making sure that they were going OK but the thing we were able to do in this visit was spend time. It was a quick visit but the joy of it was time, and through that time I have come home a little closer to mum and dad.

Time is something we can so easily forget in our relationships. It is also something we can so easily forget in our faith. Spending time with God; reading the bible, praying, worship. God is not another task we put on to our list of jobs for the week, but rather a friend we need to spend time with to get to know more.

This week is the start of Advent, the season in which we prepare for Christmas. The time between here and Christmas day goes so quickly - may some of that scarce time be given to God who is the heart of this Christmas season.

Kids & Youth

Last week the youth embarked on their annual 'Gnome Alone' challenge. At the start of the night each team receives a gnome and a list of activities that they need to photograph their gnome doing around the Central Coast. The team that gets the most activity points by the end of the night is the winner! Here are some of the teams and their gnomes.
Do you know someone in Primary School or High school? We'd love to see them at 4:12 Kids or 4:12 on Friday nights!

There is so much that we need to be praying about at present, along with bringing hope to our community this Christmas.

So as we lead up to Christmas, we invite you to join us for a Prayer and Fasting time at Terrigal Uniting Church: Saturday 12th December 11.30am – 1.30pm.

The idea is to go without lunch, if you are able, and spend time with God. There is plenty of space at the church and surrounding area to be Covid safe.

Fasting is mentioned throughout the Bible and and it is a time where we forgo something natural, to spend time with the supernatural. Many spiritual breakthroughs have come from prayer and fasting, it helps with our spiritual strength as well as strengthens our prayers.

If you are unable or hesitant to come to the church, then we encourage you to do this from home. For those who can, we’d love to see you at the church. No food, but please bring your own water bottle.

You will need to sign in on the day, but no need to register ahead of time.

November Prayer Focus: Emergency Workers

Fires, floods and storms are very much a part of our summer months. We only have to remember 12 months ago and the devastation that our nation suffered. Today many are still struggling with the effects.

Our prayer focus for November is our dedicated people who respond to disasters of any kind. Many are volunteers, and they include, but are not limited to; Rural Fire Service, SES, Marine Rescue and Emergency Services.

Please remember to thank these people when you see them and ask the question: How can we, as a local church community, be praying for you at this time.

For more information or to send your prayers:

Throughout this week, please be praying for...

  • Kylie & Seang in Cambodia
  • Richard & staff
  • Preparation for Christmas services
  • Scripture in schools
Some additional points are listed on our prayer boards at church:

Repair Cafe

Early next year, our church will be launching a Repair Cafe. If you missed the explanatory video last Sunday, you can view it here.
We will need many volunteers with all sorts of skills to help with this initiative. As well as people who can actually repair objects, we will need helpers to set up, pack up, help in the kitchen and assist in various other ways.

If you would like to help, please complete this online form, or pick up a form from the church office.

A Rise Retreat is an invitation to stop the madness and the noise, for a moment.

It is an invitation to slow down, quieten the spirit, and tune into the still, small voice of God, whispering to us by name, reminding us who we are and who God is.

On a Rise Retreat, you will have the chance to connect with others as much or as little as you want, and engage in new and ancient spiritual practices that are easeful, and nourishing.
