Minister's message

I heard some great news this week about the Health Care Manuals for PNG that our church has been Involved with for many years now.

There are a number of our members that have put many hours of time and effort into this project. You will see, in an item in our news sheet, that they have achieved the goal that Cliff Smith envisaged a long time ago. It is sad that Cliff is not here to celebrate this moment but we can remember and honour him for his vision. We can also celebrate with the others who have been a part of this life saving project: Judy smith, Dr John Oakley, Gerri Koelma and so many more. There is a real reason to celebrate the distribution of this Health Care Manual. Lives will be transformed with the distribution of this book.

In the book of James, in the Bible, it tells us that our faith is not just words, but it is also action. In James 1:22 it says "be doers of the word." I want to celebrate faith that has been put in to action through this project and I pray God's blessing and guidance as it is used to help people’s lives throughout Papua New Guinea.

Blessings
Richard

Kids and Youth

4:12 Kids and 4:12 Youth had more fun last Friday.
Both groups have lots of exciting things to look forward to in Term 4!
At Kids Church we talked about Samson learning to not only to listen for God's timing, but to learn from, and listen to, other Christians. We also talked about what was kept inside the Arc. We played in a tent, where we put the Arc of the Covenant, built temples from Lego and Duplo, did some find a words and crafted our own paper arc of the covenant from paper cut outs. Lots of fun! Next Sunday, we will make our own puppets or dress up costume that is related to the bible reading 1 Kings 17:1-24.

Health Care Manual

News about the PNG Health Care Manual Congregational Project
Update
  • 2,000 copies of the 3rd edition of the Health Care Manual for Community Health Workers in Papua New Guinea (HCM3) were printed and then shipped to PNG at the end of 2019 with the generous support of many donors, HealthServe Australia, an Australian Aid grant and PNG Air Services.
  • Despite COVID19, most of these manuals were able to be distributed by Baptist Union PNG to Community Health Worker training schools, students, teachers, and libraries across PNG.
 Some fantastic news:
  • An additional 13,000 copies of HCM3 are currently being printed as a result of recent funding from the PNG Church Partnership Program!
  • The printing will occur in Australia.
  • Transform Aid International are managing the process.
  • These manuals are planned to go to PNG Community Health Workers in the provincial health authorities, rural health centres, aid posts, and church-run and other health facilities.
  • Once distributed, it means that the original project goal will be achieved!
  • Thanks be to God.
The project concept is the legacy of Judy Smith’s husband, the late Dr Clifford Smith and was a TUC congregational project twice.
Without the faithful support of TUC, this project would never have started or finished. Thank you to everyone at TUC for your support in prayer and donations.

Operation Christmas Child

Thanks to everyone who has contributed so far to our October Congregational Project.

We had a good response to our 'Buy-a-box day' on Sunday, with many contributing to the cost of a pre-made box. Thank you to Irene for all her hard work over the past year to make and collect content for these boxes, and also to Peter, Mary and Howard who helped put them together.

There are still a number available which will be at the church until the end of October, before they are sent off on the 2nd November.

If you would like to buy a box for $30, please transfer your money to the church account: BSB 634 634 Account No 100026775, making sure to add a description saying it's for Operation Christmas Child.

November Prayer Focus: Emergency Workers

Fires, floods and storms are very much a part of our summer months. We only have to remember 12 months ago and the devastation that our nation suffered. Today many are still struggling with the effects.

Our prayer focus for November is our dedicated people who respond to disasters of any kind. Many are volunteers, and they include, but are not limited to; Rural Fire Service, SES, Marine Rescue and Emergency Services.

Please remember to thank these people when you see them and ask the question: How can we, as a local church community, be praying for you at this time.
