Minister's message

Luke 6:27-31 says this:

“But I say to you that listen, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. If anyone strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also; and from anyone who takes away your coat do not withhold even your shirt. Give to everyone who begs from you; and if anyone takes away your goods, do not ask for them again. Do to others as you would have them do to you.
As I was reading the verses that the Lectionary skipped over between last week and this week's readings, I saw Luke’s version of the love your enemy passage. I was surprised at how blunt Jesus is in this passage from Luke.

Love your enemies.
Do good to those who hate you.

Those are not simple words. If you read them carefully they challenge our everyday behaviour. If we take them seriously, we live very differently.

But then in Christianity we are not meant to just cherry-pick the easy bits from Jesus. Our life is meant to be transformed through our faith.

I am meant to love my enemies.
I am meant do good to those who hate me.

I am glad I read this passage to remind me of these challenging words that Jesus said...but I am also glad I don’t have to preach on this on Sunday.

This week we praise God and pray for...

  • 4:12 Kids & 4:12 as they return this Friday
  • Scripture in Schools
  • Our loved ones in aged care facilities
Some additional points are listed on our prayer boards at church:

February Prayer Focus

As the new year begins, we are very aware of the struggles that teachers and students had last year through Covid. There was disruption to education with changing from classroom to at-home learning, parents suddenly having to become teachers and students missing the vital social interactions with their friends.

We pray that as this year progresses we won’t have those interruptions again.
We pray for the students that are finding it difficult to reconnect.
When you see any teachers take a moment to bless them and thank them for their dedication.
When you see students of any age, take a moment to bless them in their studies and future goals.
Remember to ask the question: “How can we, as a local church community, be praying for you at this time”.
If you have any prayer points, or responses to the question, please send them through, we’d love to hear from you.

That day there will also be a BBQ fundraiser. You can purchase tickets for this over the next 2 weeks after church, or by contacting the church office throughout the week. We hope you can join us in supporting this worthy cause!
