Until further notice, worship services will be offered only on the church’s Facebook page. Join us Sundays at 10:30 am. We are also offering a short devotional time posted to the church’s Facebook page on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:00 pm. Each video contains a short devotion, a prayer and a song. The church Facebook page is DSM First Church. Take a look and share with your Facebook friends.
If you do not have access to a computer but would like to listen to the service on your phone, call Christine at the church and she can tell you how to do that.
Lisa Karen is Back in the United States
Our Office Manager, Lisa Karen, has returned from her trip to New Zealand but not without many travel issues. We want to thank Jacque Coulson, Cookie Major and Mary Ann Beatty for filling in for her while she was gone.
Now that she has returned to the US she will need to self-quarantine for 2 weeks. She will be doing some work from home but our former Office Manager, Kathy Johnson, has volunteered to staff the office until Lisa Karen is able to return. We are so grateful that Kathy contacted us and offered to help us out. It takes a village!
Did you miss it?
Sunday, March 1st, Iowa UMC Bishop Laurie Haller gave a great sermon in honor of the church's 175th anniversary. If you weren't here or you would like to read it, please check it out HERE (click here). Enjoy!
In honor of the church's 175th anniversary we will be producing a DVD. We would like to include members of our congregation. If you would be willing to share a short testimony about your life here at First, please sign the attendance sheet on Sunday or call the church office, and Pastor Edgar will be in touch to schedule a time. Thanks!
Volunteers are needed to help prepare and serve the evening meal for the Central Iowa Shelter on Thursday, April 2.
If you can help with either or both, please contact Shirley Christoffersen at 276-3112.
Even though you are not present in worship on Sundays, the church still has expenses. We still need to continue to do ministry, pay the bills and the staff. Did you know that you can now give online? Go to the church website www.dmfirstchurch.org. On the left hand side of the page you will see online giving. Click there and you will be directed to the giving page. If you would rather, please feel free to mail your weekly check to the church. The address is 1001 Pleasant St. Des Moines, IA 50309. Thank you!
Worship ~ We Welcome Everyone
First United Methodist Church, at the top of 10th Street in downtown Des Moines, strives to love others as Christ loves us and, in doing so, to be the Body of Christ in word and deed.
As the Body of Christ, we welcome all of God’s children, knowing that each is created in the image of God. We welcome people of all gender identities, sexual orientations, ages, races, ethnicities, family configurations, and physical and mental capabilities to join us in full participation as we come together to worship God and then go out to share God’s love in the world around us.
