CEnet Staff Transition to MFA

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is arguably one of the most important technical controls when it comes to protecting login accounts, and digital assets within our schools, offices and agencies. MFA is also noted as one of the 'Essential 8' by the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) - an agency of the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD).

CEnet's IT Security Management process identified MFA as a key control for protection over CEnet's digital assets and this functionality, and in turn became a key deliverable in the 2019 Access Management v2.0 project.

Recently, CEnet enforced MFA on all internal staff accounts, as well as some critical systems used by member dioceses. In doing so, this has ensured that knowledge of a password alone is not enough to compromise a system.

User experience is a key consideration when enabling MFA within your own context, and the policies that CEnet has employed internally are aimed at ensuring that this additional layer of protection does not impact internal productivity.

CEnet member dioceses are strongly encouraged to consider the deployment of MFA in their own local contexts and CEnet’s integration services team are ready to support our members in this process.

Welcome Back to Face to Face School

With many schools now fully reopened,  there have been stories of excited students and welcoming staff. We at CEnet would like to say welcome back and invite you to send stories and pictures about return to school that can be shared with readers.

In the "Learn and Lead" blog, Greg Miller, Principal Leader at St Luke's Marsden Park in the Diocese of Parramatta, reports findings from the range of school community feedback processes St Luke's conducted during the learn from home period.

Greg notes a few standout points:
  • K-4 parents who have hugely increased their connection with their child’s learning.
  • K-4 students articulating their thinking and uploading that to Seesaw.
  • Classroom introverts who ask far more questions in an online environment.
  • Older students enjoying the trust shown in them to self pace some of their work.
