Member Collaboration - Compass/TechOne Collaborative sessions
A series of Compass/TechOne collaborative sessions begins this week with the first session, ’Setting Up a New Academic Year for Ancestry Schools’, being presented by Jacinta Keenan from the Archdiocese of Hobart.
The Series of workshops is being facilitated by CEnet, using the ONCE philosophy of reducing duplication of effort, to provide a forum for participants to share and benefit from the expertise and experiences of colleagues in other member dioceses.
Each week a different Diocese will present how they have tackled a school business process by using an aspect of Compass or TechOne. Those attending the collaborative sessions are asked to come prepared with questions and to be ready to brainstorm and collaborate on how Compass or TechOne can improve their school business processes.

11 November at 1.00pm - Centralised Accounts Payable process

CEnet has an ongoing aggregate procurement process which is driven by the needs of member dioceses and aims to reduce costs associated with using a product or service by harnessing collective buying power.
Participating member dioceses are currently finalising numbers for a group purchase of the Seesaw for Schools digital portfolio solution, which will deliver a saving of almost 50% on licensing costs.
There are a number of opportunities being explored at the moment, including:
BBC Micro:bits
Doodle
Education Perfect
Pear Deck
Vivi
In addition to exploring new opportunities, CEnet also coordinates a license renewal program for member dioceses. The next renewal process will be the Adobe Agreement, which has its anniversary aligned to the commencement of the school year. Contacts in member dioceses will shortly receive a request for details of any additional licenses required for the 2021 school year.
On Thursday of last week 40 teachers from across the CEnet membership participated in a workshop on the use of the Overdrive Sora app to support reading in schools. The session which commenced after school in Qld, NSW, ACT and Tasmania, was delivered by Lisa Nash from Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta, who noted that 14 CEnet member dioceses and over 255,000 students have access to the ACEN ebook library using Sora.
The session was designed to be interactive and provided plenty of opportunity for participants to share ideas.
Participant comments: "Amazing to think our students have access to all of these books and the functionality."
"This PD was an extremely positive experience where I learnt a LOT about Sora and the way it can be so engaging and useful for a diverse range of students. The presenter was organised, friendly and very articulate."
"Want to start using this so was a great introduction. I can now go and start experimenting before I use it in the classroom. Also great to see how other teachers are motivating students to read."
"Great information examining the platform. We have Sora but I am now more confident to use and promote the app."
A recording of one of the Sora session will be published in the resources section of the Catholic Learning Online Events website, where you can find a range of workshop recordings from previous events.
