If you’re grieving a loved one this holiday season, please know you’re not alone. At VNA of NWI, we’re here to support you, hear your favorite memory of one of their best days, or simply listen. Explore these tips for dealing with grief during the holidays:

• Start a new tradition
  Place a special ornament on the tree, light a candle on the mantle, or do something in their honor. 
• Change your celebration
  It’s okay to skip particularly emotional traditions, even if it’s not something you want to give up forever. 
• Do something kind
  Volunteer, donate to their favorite cause, or gift their favorite holiday activity to a new generation in their honor.
• Share a favorite memory
  Reach out to someone else who loved them and share some joyful memories—even if they seem silly or small. 
• Give yourself time
  Even if your loss is not recent, strong emotions often resurface during the holidays. Be gentle and patient with yourself as you heal.

This last year has certainly had its challenges and your VNA has not been immune. The COVID-19 outbreak challenged us in ways we would have never expected, but also created new opportunities for us and we are a better organization because of it. But, even in the face of a global pandemic, best days are still possible.

Our incredible multidisciplinary team of nurses, aides, social workers, chaplains, physicians, support staff, and volunteers all take this calling passionately and personally. We are incredibly proud of their resilience and commitment through these challenges.

Volunteer Opportunity

Since the beginning of the year, 57% more people in our community have needed the VNA Meals on Wheels program. This winter, volunteer with VNA Meals on Wheels to help homebound seniors maintain their independence and nutritional well-being.
