“Interrumpe mi vida
Interrumpe mis sueños
Interrumpe todo lo que quieras en mí
Interrupt my life
Interrupt my dreams
Interrupt everything you want in me”
The Lord definitely interrupted our plans, in the best possible way. I would say nothing on this Summer Mission has gone according to plan, except for we planned for nothing to go according to plans, often praying “Lord, here’s what we have, but do what You want”. And He answered that prayer in amazing ways. Here are three ways so far that the Lord has shown up above and beyond what we could have planned for or expected.
1) A week before leaving, we found out we weren’t going to be the only Cru group in San Juan this June. The team that originally planned to go to Columbia got re-routed to San Juan. Not only has this helped us pursue even more partnerships with local organizations, but this is personally so special to me as two of the staff on the team are close friends from college (Rebecca was my mentor and the one who encouraged me to go to Puerto Rico when I was a student and Taylor was in the Bible study I led and I got to see her come to Christ in college). It is such a treat from the Lord to get to all be staff on Puerto Rico summer missions together!
2) We accidentally showed up to church on our first Sunday 2 1/2 hours early! I frantically asked me co-leader what we should do and he pointed out one of our main goals was to build partnerships and so that’s exactly what we did. I was able to help the pastor cook, a few staff went for a ride to pick up members, and a few staff and students joined the worship band (they’re now honorary members of the worship team for our time here - see pic below).
3) Public transportation (Ubers, metro, busses) has been a nightmare. One night, my co-leaders and I were talking about how stressed we were and how much time we were spending traveling when we could be serving (1 1/2 hours on public transportation vs. 12 minute drive). The next day one of our new partners, Frank (see left in pic above) gave us a van! It fits our team perfectly and is the answer to prayers we didn’t even think to pray. It is amazing how the Lord provides in ways we can’t possibly think or expect. Being gifted this van has changed things drastically. We have so much more freedom and time to focus on the things we came to Puerto Rico to do and join in on what the Lord is already doing.
