July Happenings (2022)

Make Us One (Daniel Mitchell)

I really, really did not want to go to Cru22 (a biennial - every other year- conference where Cru staff from all Cru ministries in the US come together to worship our Lord and seek Him for next steps). This is not one of those letters where someone really dreads something and then it ends up being the best thing of their life. To be honest, Cru22 was hard. Due to uncomfortable hotel situations, a new environment, and large group gatherings of over 5,000 staff members, I struggled with feeling anxious, overwhelmed, and alone. That said, while it was hard, there were definitely some bright moments. My anxiety caused me to lean on the Lord in a way I hadn’t “needed” to in a long time. While I didn’t know many people, I did get to make new friends and reconnect with old ones (including celebrate my dear friend from college’s birthday with her). In addition, the sessions were encouraging and impactful. It was so cool to see thousands of staff from different ministries across the country come together. One of my favorite moments was when we all sang - “make us one body, make us one heart, make us one family, let nothing tear us apart”. With so much division in our lives it was so sweet to come together and worship the One who truly unifies us. Thank you for praying for me and helping make all of this possible.

One of my favorite parts of Cru22 was getting to volunteer with childcare for a few days! I love kids and I got to spend time with my good friend, Jonathan. Jonathan and I met on Cru’s first summer mission to San Juan, Puerto Rico as students 5 years ago. Now he is co-leading Cru’s first long- term mission trip to San Juan. Please join me in praying for him and the team and feel free to reach out to me if you want to get more information about how you can be more involved in this exciting mission opportunity.

While it’s been hard traveling and being away from Noah (my boyfriend) so much this summer, it has made the times we have gotten to spend together even sweeter. Some of the sweet moments were - when he surprised me at my church’s 4th of July party (left) and when we made a pie together (right).

I can’t believe it’s almost August! This past month my boss and I have been meeting with student leaders and volunteers on each of our campuses (IUP, Penn Highlands Community College, Saint Francis University, and Penn State Altoona) to prepare for all of the incoming students and corresponding activities in the coming weeks!
