A Week Ahead - October 2, 2022

Good afternoon,

It seems like we just started the school year yet here we are entering the Second Quarter already! Tomorrow marks the midpoint of our First Semester of the 2022-2023 school year. With this, academic progress reports will be published so please be sure to check PowerSchool. The First Quarter of the school year has brought us all back together and it has been wonderful seeing the amazing dedication from our young men and their teachers over the past eight weeks. As we continue to move through the semester the foundation that has been built will propel our community into the month of October and beyond.

We have a full slate of Bosco Athletics this week with Esports competing at home, Bosco Hockey playing two games, and Cross Country competing in the Clovis Invite. It is also a big rivalry week in the Trinity League as our Brave Water Polo and Football teams travel to Santa Ana to take on Mater Dei High School.

Student tickets for the Bosco/Mater Dei football game have already been made available and requests should have been submitted last week. Tickets for the general public will be available tomorrow morning and are expected to go quickly so if you plan on attending please use the link below to purchase. Please keep our Braves in your prayers this week and cheer them on to victory!

As you know, your St. John Bosco Football team is headed to Santa Ana, CA in what is being referred to as the most anticipated high school football game in America. This game between the top two teams in the country, the Bosco Braves and the Monarchs of Mater Dei will be played at the Santa Ana Bowl on Friday, October 7. Game time kickoff is 7:30 PM. The game will also be broadcasted LIVE on Bally's Sports West.

Tickets sales open to the public tomorrow morning at 9 AM via GoFan.co. As a member of the SJB Community, we are able to provide this link below in advance. Please come out and support the young student-athletes in the football program.

Food Service | SJB Canteen Update

On Friday, the cashless system of our new food service provider, Alumni Solutions, experienced a nationwide outage.

Rather than shutting down and not serving the students, they made the extremely generous decision to serve all the boys for FREE! This amounted to a $1500 gift, which is something that most other food service companies would never have done.

We greatly appreciate you supporting them, because they are clearly 100% committed to St. John Bosco! For those who haven't yet, to please support our new program as much as possible—its continued success depends upon consistent, widespread use to meet economies of scale.

Annual Fundraiser

Hard copy tickets have been assigned and are now in your possession. You are responsible for submitting tickets on behalf of anyone who purchases one of your tickets. This includes tickets you sell online. If you were not able to attend Back to School Night, Annual Fundraiser tickets were given to your son to take home during 5th Period on Friday, September 2. If your son did not receive his tickets, please see Diane Whitten in the front office. If you have any additional questions please email annualfundraiser@bosco.org.

A Dance for the Ages

Homecoming Tickets are now on sale. Your son may purchase tickets with cash or check (made payable to St. John Bosco High School) before or after school in the oratory, or at the ASB Student Store at lunch. The tickets may also be purchased online with a credit card HERE. Ticket prices go up every week. The last day to purchase the homecoming ticket, online or in person, will be on October 12.

All SJB Students and their guests must sign the contract to agree to the rules and guidelines for the dance. If he is taking a guest that is not from SJ or SJB, he must also complete the guest pass. Both documents can be found on Schoology or he may get a hard copy at the ASB Student Store. All documents must be turned in by Wednesday, October 12 to Mrs. Fernandez.

If you pre-paid for the activities, your son's homecoming ticket is included. A reminder email was sent to him. If he is taking a guest, he must purchase 1 ticket for them.

Bosco Onori Society | Peer Tutoring

The Bosco Onori Society will be hosting a series of peer tutoring sessions this Tuesday, October 4th & Thursday, October 6th in the Learning Commons. Please don't hesitate to email mbartelt@bosco.org if you have any questions or concerns.

College Visits | Butler, Williamette, & Cal Lutheran

College reps from Butler, Willamette and Cal Lutheran University will be here on Monday, October 3rd, Tuesday, October 4th and Thursday, October 6th during lunch. CSU Application Workshop - October 6th at 11 am (period 2). Seniors who plan to apply to any Cal State University should consider attending. Interested students are required to register on Naviance in order to attend.

Senior Class Updates

Senior Portraits | Third Session

We will be holding our 3rd round of Senior Portraits on October 17th - 19th in the LC. If your son has not taken their pictures, please make sure to sign up as soon as possible before the dates are filled up. If you can't make it to any of those dates, you can make an appointment with the photography company to take it at their studio. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Fernandez.
