VOL. 001 | APRIL 2020

Welcome to Sister Merci's first Offering!

We’re still in ‘beta-mode’, but from now on you can expect a regular dose of up-to-the-minute cannabis-related content from us.

We don’t want to add more junk to your inbox - this is meant to be helpful and informative - so please tell us what you’d like to see more/less of and we’ll make it happen.

Chances are, you’re reading this in isolation, from the comfort of your new at-home office. Have you been looking for ways to stay sane amidst the insanity? Us too. Every Friday we have “Virtual Happy Hour” where we exchange ‘quarantainment’ ideas (play: Scrabble; binge: Tiger King), and take turns hosting Sister Merci Cribs. It’s been a fun way to blow off some steam at the end of the work week.

'Toosie Slide' video doesn't even hold a candle to Amanda's mediocre blazer collection.

If you'd like to discuss, debate or commiserate over anything we share, don't be shy! We'd love to hear from you!

The Sisters

Survival Sessions for Brands

Sister Merci and Tyger Tyger have joined forces to offer FREE one-on-one workshops for companies that need to reshape their current marketing plans in order to drive immediate cash flow or to use the downtime to plan a major brand overhaul. For more info, or to schedule a workshop, email us at info@sistermerci.com with the subject line "hit me with some of that free shizz."

Click-Worthy Content
We've seen an endless stream of brand newsletters hitting our inboxes with updates on what they're doing around COVID-19. Despite the growing fatigue, we loved the 'Top Pot Tips for Responsible Chilling' San Rafael sent its subscribers. It was a perfect mix of fun and fact, like encouraging us to "Stock up on munchables... but don't bogart. Share the love."

Industry Highs and Lows
It was a short-lived win for cannabis after being deemed an essential service, but the celebrations were quelled after the Ontario Government removed cannabis retail stores from that list last week. Luckily, the province acted quickly to allow curbside pick-up and delivery for retailers, ensuring continued access for consumers beyond the OCS.

Rallying to Support Front Line Workers
Several LPs (Aurora, SUPREME, HEXO and Starseed to name a few) have donated N95 respirators and gloves to local health care networks. With these masks in such limited supply and high demand, we love hearing about how industries across Canada are stepping up to contribute what they can for the safety of those risking their lives to fight the virus.

We were given special access to Lift & Co’s Cohesion portal, and spent much of January and February analyzing patterns in consumer attitudes toward Canadian cannabis brands.

We noticed a strong correlation between the top-recommended brands and their use of an integrated media strategy across all compliant channels. Brands that are over-reliant on one or two channels are consistently scoring lower net promoter scores.

What this means is that as challenging as it is to do marketing under the Cannabis Act, deploying creative, interesting and compliant tactics any way you can will help increase brand consideration. Marketing is not a ‘nice-to-have’ - it is the difference between entering the consideration set… or not.

Communicate wherever and however you can because it means that cannabis consumers and budtenders are more likely to think you are worth considering.
