Friday Check-in, April 17th:

Over these past few weeks, we've seen so many of your hearts tugged, looking for ways to express God's love to our community. Thank you for reaching out to kupuna who need help shopping, medical workers and others who could use face masks, reaching out to your neighbors with meals and prayers and letters. (It's OK, too, if you feel like you're just surviving right now. This is a crisis and we are all dealing with it in different ways.)

As we continue with our physical distancing, we know there are different ways God is inviting us to partner with God and with each other. Two members of our church 'ohana, Jonathan Wong and Vina Ariyaprakai are feeling God's nudging to come alongside some vulnerable people in our local community- specifically, families in quarantine at IHS, and a second-grade elementary school class in Kalihi. We want to invite those of you who feel that nudge, too, to join their efforts. More on those below.

From Jonathan Wong:
"I recently heard about the urgent needs at IHS regarding desperately-needed supplies to keep the quarantined homeless families engaged and involved.
They need things like paperback books, puzzles, art supplies, activity books (like word search, playing cards, Sudoku, even adult coloring books.)

If any of you have extra of these laying around at home, or if you feel led to purchase some and drop them off at church over the next week, that would be great! I will be collecting them and bringing them to IHS next weekend or so."
From Vina:
"A friend of mine who's visited Wellspring before is a public school teacher in Kalihi. Recently he shared that most of the kids in his 2nd-grade class don't have access to the internet. They don't get to see their teachers and classmates or take advantage of the great variety of free resources online. I mentioned how I would like to put some small care packages together for his kids and he was genuinely surprised and thankful.

You're more than welcome to join me in showing God's love to these 2nd-graders! I'm looking for any of the following and more-- art supplies, journals, paper, watercolors, coloring books, puzzles, games, fun things, origami paper, glue, notecards, stickers, etc. You could even write encouraging notes to the kids if you want!"
Dayna, one of Wellspring's extended 'ohana who is serving as an RN on the mainland, joyfully holds up goodies recently sent to her by our Merry Mask Makers!

Many thanks to our "Mask"er Aid team for sewing so many masks and to Danette and Debbi for their leadership. Also, it's not too late to request a mask for yourself. Please let Debbi know at (808) 782-2445  if you'd like to request one for yourself or two for your family.

As we move into this weekend, always, feel free to e-mail, call, or text the pastoral staff or Robbie. We're open to and for you.
