PRAYING THIS WEEK WITH
THE SOUTH WORCESTERSHIRE

METHODIST CIRCUIT

From Somers Park Avenue Methodist Church
Racial Justice Sunday

When our eyes do not see the gravity of racial injustice,
Shake us from our slumber and open our eyes, O Lord.
When out of fear we are frozen into inaction,
Give us a spirit of bravery, O Lord.
When we try our best but say the wrong things,
Give us a spirit of humility, O Lord.
Grant us the knowledge to understand all that we do, both personally and as a society, which prevents as from recognizing and defending the dignity of all our brothers and sisters, and especially at this time, our brothers and sisters of colour who are now feeling so much pain.
Grant us the grace to reflect on our own actions and inactions that contribute to this pain.
And grant us the strength to take action to alleviate this pain and to end racial injustice in all its forms.
Amen

Malvern Churches Together
NATIONAL CALL TO DAILY PRAYER
Following the recent news that we have passed the terrible milestone of over 100,000 deaths related to Covid-19, the Archbishops of Canterbury and York, supported by the President and Vice President of the Methodist Conference, have called upon the nation to pray and reflect not only on those who have been lost but also and the social and economic challenges facing the nation.

We are being invited to “prayer for the nation” at 6 pm every day throughout February.  So in response Churches, Together Malvern plans to host a short moment of prayer and coming together on zoom each day at 6 pm lead by our different churches in our town. We invite you and your church families to join us.

On Wednesday 17th February we will mark Ash Wednesday

There will be no Wednesday Prayers on 24th February as Nigel will be on Annual Leave.

PASTORAL
Alec Smith (Lansdowne Crescent). We are saddened to hear that Alex died last Tuesday. Our prayers are with Marilyn, his daughter and the family. Marilyn has asked that people do not phone her, send her cards or flowers at present please.

We pray for Doris and George James, who continue to suffer poor health, for Carol Blake who awaits surgery on a broken ankle, and for Julian Stephens, whose sister is very ill.

FAIRTRADE FORTNIGHT
22 February to 7 March 2021.
Fairtrade is a simple way to make a difference to the lives of the people who grow the things we love. Fairtrade Fortnight is the best time in the year to
celebrate the farmers and workers who grow the food we eat, promoting a living wage and fair trade. This year Fairtrade Fortnight highlights the growing challenges that climate change brings to farmers in the communities Fairtrade works with.
As Lansdowne is a Fairtrade Church, members are encouraged to buy Fairtrade where possible.  If you would like a link to Zaytoun's Fairtrade products (such as Olive Oil and Dates) available locally please contact Mary Wetherall (574346)

CHURCH PROJECT UPDATE
I am just in the process of sending off a cheque to Maggs Day Centre for £2466, which is the amount raised through our Outreach Project from September to the end of January.  When added to the amount raised up to last August this makes a grand total for the project so far of £3820.  I cannot yet give a final figure for the amount raised by the recent Quiz as there will almost certainly have been more donations into our account since 1 February.
Thank you to everyone for their support.
 Christopher Davis

Thank you for your continued support of the foodbank. We remain open during this second lockdown and have been busy distributing food parcels to adults and families in need.

Donations can be delivered either to the Lyttelton Well or to Spring Lane during normal opening hours (Monday and Thursday 10.15 –12noon; Tuesday 1-3 pm).
