May 2019:
BBV & Radiology AI News

Dear <<First Name>>,

Bold Brain Ventures has been moving forward in May with new investors, as well as meetings with management teams regarding potential pools of capital.

Artificial intelligence research and development continues to advance in radiology, with fully automated diagnoses of ACL tears being just one of many recent newsworthy items.

As noted previously, the managing partners of Bold Brain Ventures (BBV) have personally invested in several startups, which we have been introducing in our recent newsletters

We encourage you to consider how you can also become professionally and financially engaged in AI via our collaborative investment fund.

Please reach out to us if you have any questions or comments.

Dr. Robin Prasad and Dr. Tomislav Deur, the co-founders and managing partners of Bold Brain Ventures, have made a personal investment in A.I. Analysis.

Changes in serial images are hard to see and interpret. A.I. Analysis makes it easy. A.I. Analysis, Inc. Change Detector compares serial imaging studies by spatially registering the image volumes and presenting changes between “baseline-followup” pairs of volumes as a color-coded overlay indicating what is changing, where, and by how much. The Change Detector reduces information overload and enhances radiologist productivity, increasing value.

Fully Automated Diagnosis of Anterior Cruciate Ligament Tears on Knee MR Images by Using Deep Learning

RSNA's Radiology: Artificial Intelligence journal published research on May 8th, 2019 showing that a fully automated deep learning diagnostic system was able to accurately diagnose ACL tears using MRI scans. Read more here.
ISMRM: AI can generate synthetic contrast-enhanced MRI published an article on May 17th, 2019 regarding an AI algorithm that can "produce high-quality synthetic contrast-enhanced brain MR images." A generative adversarial network (GAN) synethesizes the post-contrast T1-weighted images, and the model can actually predict some lesions that aren't seen in the precontrast images. Read more here.
AI Took a Test to Detect Lung Cancer. It Got an A.

Google recently tested an AI model that reportedly performed on par or better than 6 radiologists in examining over 40,000 CT chest scans to detect lung cancer. The New York Times published an article with the above headline on May 20th, 2019 that has since been widely cited in the mainstream media, or you can read more about the research on Google's blog.
