‘Tis the Season for Holiday Crochet!

November 2021

Have you seen my crochet tour? I show you how I use many of my crochet decor items to decorate my home for the holidays. Maybe it will inspire you on how you can create and use some of these for your holiday decor this year.

Christmas Crochet Tour 2021

I know! I know! How do you fit a hot water bottle into a beach crochet series?

Well…. you can fill it with ice water and it does wonders for keeping you cool on the beach or anywhere. I discovered this little gem of an idea when I needed something to quell some pesky hot flashes and this cold water bottle idea helped immensely. It also gave me a crochet idea. So here we are!

November’s project in our “Life’s a Beach series” is this cold/hot water bottle cover. This is the second last instalment in our series for 2021. Only one more to go! You may be already wondering what’s in the pipeline for 2022? Stay tuned because there will be a sneak peak coming up sometime next month for our next series.

Now, this cover was created using a patchwork type method using single crochet stitches so it’s very beginner friendly. However, if you are a little more experienced you can really get creative with your colour choices and how you choose to sew up your patches. I recommend using 100% cotton for this project as it is best for things that may come into contact with moisture and / or heat.

What I especially love about this project is that it serves well for any season. You can make this for yourself or a gift for someone you know who may like to stay extra cozy this winter or a friend who may need to keep cool at all times;)

The yarn I used for this project was the Cotton Colors yarn by Loops & Threads. It’s a medium weight 4 and I used a 5.75mm hook (aka Size I/10). It’s 100% cotton. Now, you don’t have to use this yarn and in fact, I think it may be discontinued. I originally found this at Michael’s but you may still be able to find it on Etsy or some independent online retailers. I have not been able to find it on Amazon as of yet. You may also opt to use the Bernat Handicrafter cotton, which is another fantastic choice for this project. You can find this yarn in most craft and yarn stores as well as Amazon.

And to show off this beauty, I took a trip to the most famous fresh water beach: WASAGA

Why is this the most famous fresh water beach? Well, the shores of this beach stretch for a total of 14 kilometres or about 8 1/2 miles. That is quite a stretch for a beach that isn’t on the ocean! This piece of paradise sits on the southern end of Georgian Bay which feeds into the larger, Lake Huron - one of the five Great Lakes of North America. It offers 8 different sections of beach for you to choose from. If you want to stay where all the action is, close to the village centre and more of that Miami Beach feel, you’ll want to check out Beach 1. If you are feeling like a little more serenity and family oriented environment then Beach 2 & 6 will be your best bet. For more water sport activities, Beach 5 is great for seados, boats and more. So many to choose from and explore!

You can look out on the horizon and not see land on the other side! It has that ocean front feel while actually being on a lake with fresh water to jump into.

No matter what time of year, you’ll have plenty of activities to choose from. Wasaga has great beach trails to hike from Spring through Fall and fantastic places to cross country ski and snowmobile in the winter - just to name a few.

Wishing my American friends and family a beautiful Thanksgiving. May it be filled with much health, happiness and love - and lots of extra crochet, of course! I appreciate you all so much. XO
