A Note from Our President

Dear Villagers,

With Retro on Roscoe beginning tomorrow (8/13), foremost on nearly everyone’s mind is COVID safety. We are continually monitoring daily updates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH).
As of the writing of this letter, we are comfortable with their determination that outdoor events such as Retro can take place safely in a responsible environment.

Retro on Roscoe will be following current CDPH recommendations:

“Following guidance from the CDC, based on our current local COVID-19 data, we're now recommending that everyone over 2 years old, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings. Masking outdoors remains optional, where the risk of transmission is lower.”

Our Kid’s Area, while outdoors, will require masking from all entrants. In addition, neighborhood businesses may have their own requirements for entry and RVN fully supports their individual policies.

We are also working with CDPH to host Vaccine Ambassadors and are planning to have vaccinations available on-site. While we hope that attendees will be fully vaccinated, we recognize the importance of vaccine outreach and will be doing our part to promote this critical preventive measure.

We are excited to host Retro and are looking forward to a fun celebration of Roscoe Village!

Larry Peterson, RVN Board President

Retro on Roscoe 2021 Lineup

A little something for everyone!

Retro on Roscoe Starts Tomorrow Evening

Retro on Roscoe, the signature annual event in Roscoe Village, will dazzle Chicagoans of all ages once again starting tomorrow and going all weekend! The best street festival in Chicago will pack performances by over three dozen bands onto its three stages over three days, adding terrific street food and fine beverages into the mix.

For those who enjoy scoping out the amazing classic cars that put the "retro" in Retro every year. Gearheads will have from 1 P.M. until 10 P.M. on Saturday and Sunday nights to check out the models on display.

Options for adult beverages will include our refreshing Vodka Lemonade along with a great assortment from Corona and more!

Retro began in the 1980s as essentially a block party: just two blocks of fun and entertainment. The name was a nod to what was then (and now) a neighborhood for quality antiquing; it also embodied the amazing classic cars that are on display each year.

If you're looking to enjoy Retro and support Roscoe Village at the same time, consider serving as a volunteer. We still have many shifts available. We are especially in need of volunteers on Sunday evening. Sign up here and join your neighbors in the fun!

Street Closures for Retro on Roscoe 2021

Retro on Roscoe wouldn’t be much of a street festival with cars zooming down the middle of the event—and that means street closures. The good news for Roscoe Village residents is that you won’t be driving to the fest, you’ll just be stepping out your front door and strolling to a party that’s the envy of the rest of the city.

In order to accommodate this great neighborhood event, no parking signs have been posted for set up. Please be aware of these postings and do not park your car or it will be towed.

Streets closed from Friday, August 13th at 8 AM to Monday, August 16th at 6 AM:

* Roscoe St. from Damen to Hoyne
* Seeley Ave. from the alley south of Roscoe to the alley north of Roscoe

Streets closed from Saturday, August 14th at 2 AM to Monday, August 16th at 6 AM:

Retro is RVN’s only fundraiser and its proceeds enable RVN to make financial contributions to Roscoe Village schools, parks, and community organizations. Retro has also made it possible for RVN to improve Roscoe Village streetscapes, paint the bridge on Roscoe Street, install garbage cans throughout the neighborhood, hire a “Clean Team” to pick up trash throughout Roscoe Village on a biweekly basis, partner with other community members to sponsor the Neighborhood on Watch program and install a neighborhood security camera system, sponsor events for our community like the Halloween Parade and Winterfest (along with RVCC), and pay for flowers to be planted throughout Roscoe Village.
