Boosting Climate Finance for Transport

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has begun its public consultation for its Transport Lending Policy (due 29 October 2021). This offers a great opportunity to boost the visibility of transport as a key sector in climate financing. EIB’s policy also serves as guidance for other international and regional financing agencies.

Avoid-Shift-Improve Refocus

Read the strategy note on the collective multi-stakeholder process established by SLOCAT and our Partners to strengthen the Avoid-Shift-Improve (ASI) framework.

Based on the renewed ASI Diagramme, we are now working towards an ASI Resource Hub and an ASI Declaration.

Transport-Health-Climate Nexus

SLOCAT co-organised a side event at the UN High Level Political Forum 2021 with partners from the Health Climate Network (World Health Organization and Wellcome Trust) to explore cross-sectoral, win-win actions for health and climate change.

SLOCAT also supported the Health Climate Network to explore how current transport and health systems are contributing to the climate crisis and impacting peoples’ health, and how they can be part of the solution.

Accelerating Progress in E-Mobility

Check out the updated SLOCAT E-mobility Overview, which now covers the targets and trends of 81 countries, 100 cities/regions, 148 companies and 30 automobile companies.

The SLOCAT Secretariat has submitted input to the Drive Electric Campaign in expanding its focus on  2- and 3-wheelers issues and is coordinating with partners to organise a launch event for the Two- and Three-Wheelers Policy Platform at COP26. 

SLOCAT is also working with the High-Level Climate Champion’s team to develop a playbook on urban e-mobility in the Global South.

Check out the new Knowledge Pills Series on Tough Questions, Smart Answers where you can find issue briefs deep diving into knowledge and policy tools, drivers and enablers for transport, climate and sustainability action.

The GIZ-SLOCAT Tracker of Climate Strategies for Transport now covers 80+ new Nationally Determined Contributions. A final analysis of the climate strategies is expected to be released at COP26. 

SLOCAT is working with ICF to produce a guidance document which aims to support national entities in developing a sectoral Long-Term Strategy and evaluating greenhouse gas and sustainability benefits of transport solutions.

Asia Pacific Climate Week 2021

SLOCAT co-organised three official thematic sessions with the UN Environment Programme, NDC Transport Initiative for Asia, Asia LEDS Partnership and others, which featured many SLOCAT partners and their works. We also co-organised a side event on small island states with Asia LEDS Partnership.

Nikola Medimorec, SLOCAT Data and Research Analysis Officer, and Alice Yiu, SLOCAT Policy Analysis and Strategic Communications Officer explained the challenges in tracking sustainable transport trends in the region at the Transport Track Session on Behaviour Change and Technology Development.

Honoured to Support Our Partners' Events!

Liza Castillo, SLOCAT Senior Advisor, shared insights on the energy transition for sustainable mobility at an event organised by the Energy Commission of the National Council of Science and Technology of Guatemala, supported by the Transport Working Group of LEDS-LAC and coordinated by Sustentar.

Maruxa Cardama, SLOCAT Secretary General, spoke at the Green Transportation Routable on Future Mobility at the Vienna Energy Forum.

Africa Climate Week 2021  I  26-29 September

SLOCAT is co-organising three official thematic sessions with the UN Environment Programme and partners. As the Co-Focal point of the Marrakech Partnership for Global Climate Action, SLOCAT is also assigned to lead the Implementation Lab in collaboration with the High-Level Climate Champions team and the Transport Thematic Group.

Second UN Global Sustainable Transport Conference  I  14-16 October 


A letter was submitted on behalf of the SLOCAT Partnership to the Under-Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs. proposing  concrete and action oriented mandates to  to enable a practical, lasting impact of the Conference’s legacy.

Workshop on Transport Decarbonisation Innovative Technologies

As the Co-Lead for World Conference on Transport Research Society (WCTRS) Special Interest Group (SIG) F2 on Transport, Climate Change and Clean Air, SLOCAT is co-organsing a virtual workshop with the International Transport Forum and Deutsche Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt. It will explore the best practice and latest research findings on emerging trends and technologies.
