We are expecting a high number of transport events in which SLOCAT Partners are involved; with this Secretariat either leading or co-organising them. Please keep an eye on the dedicated SLOCAT webpage on all things transport at COP26 for latest updates on planned activities as they become available to the SLOCAT Secretariat. And don’t miss out on our dedicated Trello board where detailed materials are being uploaded. Also, let us know if you are planning to attend COP26 in person.
We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and applaud the ongoing efforts of SLOCAT partners, including those participating in the SLOCAT Task Force for UNFCCC Engagement, who are making the co-conceptualisation and co-elaboration of these activities possible, despite the ongoing complexities.
At this important event, SLOCAT curated fruitful exchanges with our Partners and colleagues by co-organising the following side events:
How to enhance climate ambition in national strategies with the Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI) and NDC Transport Initiative for Asia (NDC-TIA)
Role of companies in reducing freight-related emissionswith IDDRI and Michelin
Multi-stakeholder engagement and synergieswith Action Towards Climate Friendly Transport (ACT) Initiative and its component leads
SLOCAT was also proud to be invited by UNDESA to participate in the Open Webinar on Sustainable Transport Commitments. Maruxa Cardama, SLOCAT Secretary General, moderated a thematic session on transport’s role in achieving the SDGs and global climate commitments. She also spoke at the Business Forum on the Role of Business in Advancing Sustainable Transport.
Join us in celebrating the launch of the Drive Electric Campaign, which aims to advance smart government policies to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles worldwide. We are also working with the UN High-Level Climate Champion’s team to develop a playbook on urban e-mobility in the Global South.
High-Level 14th Regional Environmentally Sustainable Transport (EST) Forum in Asia
SLOCAT, Asian Development Bank and NDC-TIA (funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment) presented the vision of the Council for Decarbonising Transport in Asia and its future thinking for policy development. Nikola Medimorec from the SLOCAT Secretariat also shared insights on sustainable transport solutions for increased resilience in the Forum’s plenary.
Forum report will be available on the website soon.
To enhance better understanding on the transport climate actions in Africa, SLOCAT, under the lead of UNEP, co-organised official thematic sessions with Transport Decarbonization Alliance, New Horizons Women’s Education Centre and World Resources Institute Africa to explore the following issues:
Transport and climate action outlook to 2050
Policies for behavior change and technology development
Financing the shift to sustainable, low and zero emissions mobility

A set of key messages is being developed with the generous support of the FIA Foundation and in co-leadership between the SLOCAT Secretariat, FIA Foundation, Institute for Transportation and Development Policy, MobiliseYourCity and WRI. A special thank you for those who have contributed input to the partnership-wide consultation in early October! We are now incorporating the feedback in order to release the messages at COP26.
