AIS-Salzburg Newsletter

Dear AIS-Salzburg Community,

With today, Friday December 18, our school community goes on Winter Break and everyone can leave the academic struggles to rest for a well-deserved break. It will be a quiet season and one necessarily accompanied by introspection and concern for others; perhaps as it should be in some sense.

The administration has been following the health situation in Salzburg closely over the past weeks and has been kept informed of important aspects of government regulations and measures implemented to date. It seems we are not out of the woods yet, but the news of a vaccine being distributed in the next week does fill us with hope for the future.

Attached at the bottom of this newsletter, we invite all readers to review our written response to the question on everyone's mind presently; 'Will we be providing in-class instruction in January?' We are optimistic and—provided everyone cooperates and supports certain health/safety measures—look forward to the return of all of our students next month.

In the meantime, I would like to thank all of the students and staff members for their hard work during this online instructional period and wish everyone happy holidays!

Student Spotlight: Adam H.

Grade 10 student Adam is in his second year at AIS-Salzburg and his presence at our school is summarized well by Resident Assistant Matt DeKryger: "Adam has the unique ability to connect with people and make them feel relevant and important no matter who they are or where they come from. In a diverse and multicultural community like AIS-Salzburg, Adam brings people together and makes them feel welcome."

Student Life Series: Episode 3

In this third episode of the 2020-2021 Student Life Series, AIS-Salzburg students are forced to return home for online education as the Coronavirus flares up again in its second wave across Europe.

The Virtual Classroom; With Adel T.

Adel is in her first year at AIS-Salzburg in grade 11 and has been a significant part of our community ever since she arrived back in September. She immediately integrated well into the school's social and boarding communities and also signed up for nearly every single weekend activity that was on offer. Now, during the online instructional portion of the school year, she has added online learning to the list of things in which she excels.

Below are two video assignments Adel turned in this past week that motivated her teachers to request that she be recognized in this newsletter. The first video is an assignment from her World Literature class entitled, 'Ramayana Creative Response: Graphic Novel or Original Epic in modern setting'. The second is from Advanced Placement German (IV). No specifics on the German assignment were provided, but you can see from the video that she has quite comfortably and successfully jumped right into one of the highest levels of German offered at our school.
