These are bewildering times. We struggle to know how to talk to one another, how to honor the humanity of people when they challenge our values. We are looking for ways to heal wounds and find one another again. Maybe even for the first time.

This is why Faith Commons exists. To do the hard work of seeking the common ground that will hold the weight of our disparate visions of the world. We will never agree on everything, but we can locate the empathy within ourselves that connects us with the dignity of those who hurt and threaten us. We are all made better when we learn to see would-be enemies as opponents who can teach us about ourselves.

About Valarie Kaur

In her 2018 Ted Talk "3 Lessons of Revolutionary Love in a Time of Rage," Valarie Kaur asked the question, "Is this the darkness of the tomb or the darkness of the womb?" With that question she empowered her audience to turn despair into hope through changing the way we understand our differences.

In her 2020 book, See No Stranger: A Memoir and Manifesto of Revolutionary Love, Ms. Kaur walks her readers through a process that has the power to non-violently revolutionize our relationships, our communities, our nation, even our world. Her Revolutionary Love Project gives us tools to process the grief, fear, and anger that arise in response to people and circumstances we find uncomfortable or threatening so we can do more good and prevent more harm.

About Our Event

Faith Commons is bringing Valarie Kaur to Dallas by partnering with as many individuals, groups, and organizations as possible. Together, we want to do the work of The Revolutionary Love Project—to reimagine the role of faith in the public square and spark new possibilities and transformation.

The goal of the public lecture is to expose a broader community to Ms. Kaur's work. The workshop is for those who want to engage in the ongoing work of revolutionary love moving forward.

Our work at Faith Commons is grounded in the conviction that when we assert and protect the humanity of another we both animate the divine within ourselves and safeguard our own humanity. This work takes effort in our cultural and political environment, and it takes practice. Our time with Ms. Kaur will ground us in tools and resources for supported practice.

We invite you to join us in this hopeful mission.
