Lets Learn about...
People with a disability have a higher chance of experiencing poverty with fewer opportunities to participate in community. What ever the type of disability, everyone has the right to be treated equally and be an active and valued member of their community.

More than 4 million people in Australia have some form of disability. That's 1 in every 5 people. Tis the season to be thinking about how you can have a positive impact on someone's life.

The Together Project

The 2016 Parliamentary Inquiry into Abuse in Disability Services “… linked the abuse of people with disability to the failure to uphold the rights of people with disability, a culture problem that goes beyond the quality of care in disability services”.
The Disability Services Commissioner (DSC) is trying to shift attitudes to disability and build safe and respectful cultures in disability service organisations through the together project.

What is The Together Project?

The together project is an opportunity to make wrap art together and talk about what it means to be safe, happy, cared for and equal.

DSC is using wrap art to open up conversations about belonging, respect, and individuality between people with disability, family members, friends, and people who work in disability services.

Wrap art offers an opportunity to talk to each other and share what it means to you to be safe, happy, cared for and equal, while you wrap your thoughts into beautiful artworks for safekeeping!

Get involved and get the conversation started

Anyone can get involved. Make and donate at least one artwork that will be part of an art exhibition in 2019. You can make art in your home or disability service, your workplace, or join us at one of our art making spaces in 2019

Here are some questions to get your conversations started while you’re making some wrap art:
  • What makes you feel happy? I feel happy when....
  • What makes you feel safe? I feel safe when....
  • What make you feel valued? I feel valued when....
  • What makes you feel cared for? I feel cared for when......
  • What makes you feel equal? I feel equal when.....
  • What does having a say feel like for you? I feel as if I have a say when….
