Let's Learn About...
Did you know there are more than one billion people in the world who live with some form of disability? That equates to about 15% of the world's population. Our ageing and growing population also means this proportion is increasing.

Every year, we celebrate this vibrant community with the International Day of People With Disability (IDPWD).
Love Sport? Let's learn about...

International Day of People with Disability

International Day of People with Disability is a United Nations day that promotes inclusivity and celebrates the achievements and contributions of people with disability. It aims to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development, and to increase awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life. The annual celebration supports public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability.

The theme for International Day of People with Disability for 2018 is

‘Empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality’

This theme focuses on empowering people with disabilities for inclusive, equitable and sustainable development as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Since its inception in 1992, thousands of community organisations have held International Day of People with Disability registered events across Australia. Activities are hosted during the week leading up to, on, and after the actual day of IDPWD on December 3rd. We've collated all of the great IDPWD sport and recreation programs available across Victoria so you can easily get involved with your community.
