November 2019 Newsletter

Welcome to 88 more subscribers!
In moving over to Mailchimp, some of our subscribers got left behind - until now. Welcome to all 676 of us and enjoy our monthly newsletter.
There has been a lot of buzz recently about how people can connect, volunteer and have fun at our co-op. We are working up a system whereby you can sign up for an hour or a day - sweep the floor, bag raisins, re-organize shelves, price new products, cull aging lettuce or help close for the day. Many folks don't want to cashier; don't want to commit on an on-going basis; don't want responsibility. We can accommodate that!

WHAT'S NEW AT THE CO-OP?

NEW EXTENDED HOURS!
You spoke. We listened!!
Creative minds have figured out how to INCREASE our hours:
       Monday - Friday  10 - 5 pm
      Thursday              10 - 7 pm
      Saturday              10 - 2 pm
HOW DID WE EXTEND INSTEAD OF REDUCE OUR HOURS?
After much discussion, the board has increased Sharon Greenwood's hours to full-time on a trial basis. In expanding her range of responsibilities, this includes her being in the store more frequently and handling the out-of-the-ordinary situations such as covering for volunteers who are ill or injured. And with more volunteers coming in to support cashiers, it eases the burden of opening and closing and makes it more enjoyable for us all.

DID YOU KNOW...Merchant Fees decreased by 50%!!!

Thanks to member suggestions, the increased use of cash and debit for purchases and the detective work of Julie Jones, our merchant fees have been decreased by half. This frees up funds for other worthy endeavours!

DID YOU KNOW.... the new bulk/caselot email address is: purchases@monasheecoop.ca

DID YOU KNOW...we have found ethically sourced palm oil.
DID YOU KNOW...our co-op has acquired two new-to-us computers which is a huge relief to the many volunteers who have been dealing with s-l-o-w these past few years. Thank you to Julie Jones for being at Tutor Tech at the right time and Shelley Santo for her computer donation. Speaking of Shelley...

Volunteer Highlight: Shelley Santo

Pay the Grocer or pay the Doctor

With all the volunteer opportunities in Lumby, why did this newcomer choose our co-op? After a serious battle with cancer, Shelley came out the other side knowing she wanted to make healthier choices. The first time she walked into our MCC, she thought "Good to know this is here!" Since volunteering, she has enjoyed meeting many new people who are like-minded, and are passionate about supporting our co-op. And she's excited by the changes and expanded number of new products.
What would be a cool thing for the co-op to do next?
Find more space so people could come in and eat here! Have a coffee; meet friends; play with ideas and discuss the issues of the day. Build our community even more!

Sharon's Gifts

Although we are moving into winter, we will continue to have carrots, onions (not red), apples and potatoes for awhile. OM Naturale in Armstrong has been recommended for their toothpaste. We're excited about a local company and hope it meets our mandate requirements.

  • We have discontinued weekly sales and now have periodic, in-store sales on select products - we get a deal; you get a deal.
  • Sometimes we are out of organic half and half cream, organic milk and organic whip cream.  This is due to our supplier shorting us and then we cannot reorder for another week.  We are sorry for any inconvenience to members who shop at the Co op first!  We do appreciate that!
  • Product Recommendations…we can’t guarantee we can bring it in, but if several ask for it, it's more likely. Write down your suggestion on the product suggestion form by the checkout counter. If it's already there - add a check mark.
  • The Co op has been growing and changing over the last few months so if you haven’t been in for awhile, be sure to stop in and have a good look!
