We need baggers!

Particularly for the next month as Mike Takahashi, Jo Anne and Paul Fisher, who do a lot of bagging for our co-op, are not available. The best days to come in to learn about good food handling practices is Monday or Wednesday. Once you are trained, we can arrange for you to come in at times and days that suit you for the amount of time that works best for you. Even an hour of your time means more products get on the shelves for people to buy. For more information, contact Chris at

Quick Health Facts-Did you know water kefir helps support immunity? One of our newest products to help support your wellness. Find out how:

At MCC we celebrate Culture!

Sharon has done it again! She is super excited about sharing her newest product from Culture Kefir Co. from Vancouver. Handcrafted in small batches, their water kefir is sure to be a hit at your table too.

Many of us are already familiar with kombucha, kimchi and sauerkraut. This is the latest popular wave of ferments to help support our healthy digestive tract.
With more and more studies surfacing on the importance of health gut flora we can hail this as a welcome addition to line up. Many doctors and grandmothers alike share the same thought that 'it all begins in the gut'! From our immune system, healthy heart to our happy hormone serotonin all have their origins, you guessed it, in our gut! For more information, check out their link to learn more!

We currently carry their 250ml size of the Strawberry Rosehip and Lemon, Turmeric, Ginger and the 1L size of the Strawberry Rosehip.

Mom wasn't kidding when she said 'Go with your gut!'

A Note From Your Purchaser:

Wow…2020!  Quite a start to a new decade!  It is exciting times at the co-op…our member numbers are growing which is so great.  Watch for more local products coming into the co-op this year.  And if anyone is interested in learning more about growing produce to sell at the co-op for this upcoming season please come talk to me at the store. I can tell you what we were short of last season and what kind of growing practices are required, for us to be able to sell your produce. You don’t have to be certified organic but you do have to follow the same “Bee Safe” growing practices.

Has everyone noticed the signup sheet at the store that lets me know what produce you would like brought in? As soon as several people request the same item I can bring it in, such as zucchini, leeks, swiss chard, green onions, etc.  As always, you can suggest other grocery/bulk items you would like to see us carry too.

What are my thoughts on New Year’s resolutions?  I think any motivation for change is good but start small so you can be consistent and achieve success…and once it has become a habit then add another small change.

Wishing you all success in whatever intentions you set for this new year!

Shovel out and Save!

Honourable Mention in the Oasis Awards!

OASIS AWARDS: It's not every year someone gets to visit 130 food co-ops across the continent so it only feels appropriate to celebrate some of the most memorable - as Author Jon Steinman does in his 2019 book release tour.

Grocery Story: The Promise of Food Co-ops in the Age of Grocery Giants

The Oasis Award goes to wholesome, ethically-sourced food in an area with very few options. Monashee Community Co-op was the ONLY Canadian contender amongst hundreds of American ones - and we won honourable mention!

Woohoo! Well done MCC!

The winner is Isla Vista Food Co-op neighbouring Santa Barbara, California. With a population of 23,000, 85% of residents are between 18-24. Of the student population, 48 percent of undergrads are at some level of food insecurity, 6 percent of them are homeless, and 400 of them are undocumented. In all of IV, only one other full-service grocer (a small independent) is within easy walking/cycling distance.
