Thanks to all of you for making our drive-through flu clinics successful!
Please remember that your child needs a "Booster vaccine dose" if she has not received at least two flu vaccines ever before July 1, 2020. The booster dose should be given at least one month after the first dose was given.
If your child needs a booster dose, OR if your child still has not received a flu vaccine this year, we continue to have flu vaccine clinics in the office Monday through Friday mornings for ALL AGES.
Please sign up on our website for an appointment for these flu vaccine clinics; your child must have an appointment for the clinic before coming to the office.
Reminder: Appointments are scheduled to help with social distancing in our office. It is important to Check-In at your appointment time.
We still have a limited number of Flumist and do not prefer one over the other. Flumist can be given only to children over 2 years of age without other chronic health problems, including asthma, wheezing within the past 12 months, cochlear implants, or immunosuppression. Flumist is a live virus vaccine, so can not be given if your child has received either MMR or Varivax vaccine within the past 4 weeks or has received Tamiflu or Xofluza in the past 48 hours.
Both Flu shots and Flumist can be given to children with an egg allergy. However, if your child has had an allergic reaction to eggs that involved more than hives, please talk to your child’s doctor before signing up for the flu clinic, as your doctor may want to schedule the vaccine during regular office hours. Please also note that we use multi-dose vials for our injectable flu shots; these vials contain a trace amount of thimerosal. Our doctors do not believe there is any harm in this and recommend it without hesitation. Piedmont Pediatrics will not call in flu vaccines to pharmacies for our patients, as we can not know if the pharmacy staff is equipped and trained to care for any adverse reactions that may occur.
Please keep an eye on our website and social media as we will post any updates there. Let’s all make sure to get our flu vaccine this year!
