The Lindleys in Papua New Guinea (PNG)

March 2021

"Collectively Speaking"

Dear friends and family,

Changes in our Wycliffe ministry are coming soon!

"Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed."
Psalm 139:16
As we stated in our newsletter last month, we recently hit the 9-year mark since first arriving in Papua New Guinea – the “land of the unexpected”. We cannot thank you enough for your prayers, partnership and other various expressions of support throughout the past eleven+ years (remember the two years of training and partnership development before PNG?). Many of you have been alongside us since ‘day one’ in this journey and others much more recently. In it all, you have collectively been and continue to be teammates, supporters and partners in our Wycliffe ministry – a ministry that’s chief focus is to build capacity for sustainable language development and see God’s Word in every language and every life.

We’ve reached a point in our Wycliffe ministry where God is calling us back to our passport country (USA) and more specifically to our “as ples” (home) of Oregon. At first glance it may seem that such a decision is based as a response of the Covid era we now all collectively find ourselves in. We can assure you this is not the case. That’s not to say that’s of no consideration, rather God began orchestrating this decision before Covid.

In short: we’ve felt this leading and directional transition for right at one year now (shortly after returning to PNG in January 2020). So the time of praying, searching, ‘knocking on doors’ with colleagues and family has been a refining one that has succinctly revealed to us ‘peace’ in this process.
"Give all your worries and cares to God,
for He cares about you."

1 Peter 5:7
So what’s next? Alyssa will be graduating on June 4th and we currently have plans to begin the process of ‘going finish’ from PNG on June 9th (this is a big prayer point – being able to successfully travel internationally right now). We are not, however, planning to leave Wycliffe but will seek to continue to work with Wycliffe in a still-supported role remotely from Oregon (more on all that in a near-future letter). Please be praying for direction in these possible new roles!

God has been so kind and gracious to us – more than we feel we deserve or could ever ask. One tangible example is that our home here in PNG recently sold (we’ll still live in it until exiting in June). This might sound rather benign at first but when you consider there are significantly more dwellings available for sale right now as there ever has been in our near decade here and that we’re the only home to have sold in the past many months (thus far), it becomes much more eye-opening. Simply: God is directing us back to Oregon.

If you have any questions (or thoughts or suggestions, etc.), please feel free to email us back. We don’t have all the answers as yet, but we look forward to sharing with you—collectively—on a more regular basis as we proceed forward into this chapter of acclimating back into the ever-changing stateside culture. We (collectively; smile) are excited to return to Oregon and (re)engage in ministry there while still remaining engaged in our supported Wycliffe ministry and its very global reach and impact.

PRAYER & PRAISE Points:
  • PRAISE that God has given us direction to return to Oregon and pursue a stateside role with Wycliffe.
  • PRAISE that our house in PNG sold.
  • PRAYER: We still have many unknowns between now and when we return to Oregon in June from job details to vehicle needs to where we will live (not to mention international travel during Covid). Please pray for all these details and anything else God lays on your heart. Thank you!
