Dear friends,

We're playing two shows for you this month! Also, with the start of the 2020's we've been feeling hindsight-ful about our time as a band thus far. Read on for show deetz and an illustrated retrospective.

Sunday, Jan 19 - Portland, OR
The Old Church (1422 SW 11th Ave)
We are hella jazzed to be opening for friend and mentor Geoff Berner at this Klezmer Extravaganza in PDX, hosted by Jack "Yankl" Falk. Geoff just put out a new album which you should listen to. In a strange coincidence, this is the second year in a row we'll have played a show in Portland on Stef's birthday-eve. Stay up til midnight with us to help ring it in!
Doors 6:30, show 7:30. All ages. Tickets $12.

Friday, Jan 31 - Everett, WA
Cafe Zippy (1502 Rucker Ave.)
This will be an intimate show at the delicious Cafe Zippy wherein we play not one but TWO sets, back to back. Come eat, drink, and cheer us on. This is a great show for North Seattleites, Bellinghammers, Vancouverites, and Alaskans, since you won't have to get through downtown Seattle to come see us! You won't even have to get through that weird I-5 slowdown by Everett, because you'll jump ship in Everett and be at your destination. (But if you do make it from further South we'll give you a special shoutout.)
7pm-9pm. Free, $10-20 suggested donation (door/tip jar).

Looking back
The past two years have been full of growth in many dimensions. We've learned about collaboration, improvisation, how to write a set list, and how to make a Freygish scale more Freygy. Since first meeting up in Maia's living room in January 2017 with no intention of ever leaving the couch, we've overcome a lot of inhibitions about being on stages, and been inspired by all the things our new friends (hey that's you!) are doing and all the things we can continue to do. We've also delved into Yiddish, dived into the archives, and gotten deeper into communities of rad punk love poets, anarchist bathroom artists, and virtuoso Klezmorim.

This year in particular we really ramped up our gigging. According to our analysis, we played 67% more shows in 2019 than we did in 2018. On average we played one show per month in 2017, nearly 2 in 2018, and going on 3 in 2019 (see Figure 1).

Figure 1. The board was very pleased with our agent's presentation at the annual review meeting. We are preparing to launch our IPO next month. We will be transitioning from a PLLC to a little TLC.

Before 2019 almost all the shows we'd played had been in the Seattle area, but this year we expanded our geographic horizons (see Figure 2).
Figure 2. Some hot takes from the commentators:

1) This chart is round, like the Gregorian year! That's lucky because everything else about it makes the DataViz gods roll over in their graves. Print it out and dip it in honey for a sweet 2020.

2) Pacman Seattle is trying to gulp down all our touring. Moral: eat local, play music out.
Figure 3. Here's a more anthropocentric visual of our journey: The very first show we ever played together (The Pocket Theater 8/4/17), and our most recent show (The Royal Room 12/23/19). Please note the excessive wisdom emanating from us in the second picture (mainly visible as 4 more inches of Maia's hair). Photo cred: Leah Knopf and Ben Schroeter, respectively.
Thank you for being in the world with us!
